Workers Share Their Company Dress Codes And How They Sneakily Defied It Without Technically Breaking Any Rules
The outpouring of stories came after someone shared how their manager filed a complaint about their red Converse

Fashion is a very personal matter for a majority of our population. It's how you present who you are to the world and how other people will make a superficial judgment about you.
Some clothes, however, are not appropriate in certain settings. This is why weddings and other formal events specify the kind of attire that they are looking for.
Workplaces also lay out exactly what kind of clothes are acceptable in their office spaces. Dress codes are partly to set a standard for a legally safe working environment, but to also showcase the professionalism of your business to prospective clients.
One Reddit user had an issue with the dress code at his upscale catering workplace. Sorry, his manager had an issue with his clothes — his red Converse to be exact.
The original poster (OP) works in their company's corporate division as well as the catering division for private events. They typically wear jeans and t-shirts when making the catering deliveries for the events.
In the office, OP works wearing jeans, a crisp white shirt, and his signature red Chuck Taylor shoes. To paint a better picture, OP disclosed that he has a resting b*tch face and full sleeve tattoos.
His personality couldn't be more opposite than his appearance. OP has an outgoing personality and he likes to make people laugh which is great when he has to build rapport with their clientele.
Knowing that OP is great with their clients, the owner of the company is not overly strict with the way OP dresses. After all, he can ease any tense situation with any of their clients.
His department had a different idea and was constantly on OP's case, complaining about his red Chucks.
She has been nagging OP about his red shoes until she finally wrote him up for his "violation." When they were called to discuss the issue, OP promised he won't wear his red shoes anymore and the manager couldn't be happier.
She looked like she had won the battle over OP's red shoes. Her smugness was gone the next day when OP showed up to work wearing his checkered orange and white Vans.

OP was quite pleased about the outcome. He proved his point that his manager's fussiness about his shoes was just her own issue to deal with.

Who has the energy to harp someone about red shoes? Honestly.

Reddit showed OP that he wasn't alone in this petty, but necessary fight for dress code

Should have made more effort getting to know people first before pushing your new found power

Sense the room, Bob

They call them paper pushers in some fields

In all honesty, their positions are supposed to be vital for the benefit of the team

But they end up becoming a mouthpiece for whatever agenda the boss is pushing

Comments about people doing their own versions of defying their workplace dress code — like this person who was by the book but was also dressed like a pirate

If they're going to turn you into a penguin...

... better be the most flamboyant penguin!

That's enough activism in the 50s

They are black socks, aren't they?

Be careful of what you ask for because you will get exactly what you want. It may not be exactly what you expected but it is in the spirit of what you asked for.
OP's manager could have asked him first what's the story behind his red Chucks before berating him about it and writing him up. Well, she didn't and now she has to silently fume while staring at OP's bright orange Vans.
