Couple Hires Clown For Their Wedding, Upsets MIL Further When Their Favorite Photo Was One With Clown

A newly married couple's non-traditional wedding proved to be a controversial decision... at least for the mother of the groom. Unwilling to subject their guest to an extravagant yet stuffy wedding, the couple decided to hold their special day in the party room of their favorite pizza place.

The place had appeal because it was a former 19th-century factory. OP's wedding was the very definition of casual, but it was the kind of fun she and her husband strived to achieve.

Their guests were allowed to bring all of their children regardless of age. OP and her husband organized carnival-themed games and food to entertain the kids.

They also hired a 23-year-old clown who was friends with OP's cousin. The clown had good credentials and was great with kids.

OP and her husband also included the clown to join in some of their wedding photos. No one could claim that OP's wedding was boring and forgettable.

OP did notice how distant her mother-in-law had been since the big day. OP realized how pissed her MIL was when she joined them for dinner recently.

Their wedding photos have been delivered. They had their favorite photo framed and prominently displayed in their home.

It was OP and her husband dramatically looking at each other with the clown beside them ready to hit her husband on the head with a prop hammer. OP's MIL lost it when she saw the framed wedding photo.

Her MIL blamed OP for the wedding. She accused her of embarrassing her and rubbing it in by including the clown in some of the photos.

She said OP was supposed to make sure her son had a classy wedding instead of the clown show they put on.

OP's husband asked his mom to leave because his new wife was stunned into silence.

OP thought their wedding was a success after their guests' positive feedback. She had a good relationship with her MIL, so her outburst about the wedding threw OP for a loop.

Whoever told OP that weddings are for families is wrong. However, clowns can be divisive. But since none of the guests complained, this is her MIL's problem.

Besides, the clown was respectful of the boundaries OP set for him. He wasn't intrusive nor was he in all of the wedding photos.

MIL doesn't have a clown-related trauma. She just wanted a "classy" wedding she could brag about to her friends.

If their casual wedding reflected the type of celebration OP and her husband envisioned, then it was a success.

It sounds like they had a great wedding where even the children had fun. Kids can sometimes be overwhelmed at formal events, which makes them fuss.

MIL can ignore the couple's favorite wedding photo when she visits.

They had plenty of photos without the clown she could share with her friends.

I'm afraid OP's humor is lost on people like her MIL

Couples can have whatever kind of wedding they want. Guests do not have to attend weddings they don't want to be a part of.

It's a tad melodramatic for her MIL to invalidate their wedding because a clown was present.

At the end of the day, OP and her husband had a blast on their special day.

It's time for OP to disengage and let her husband deal with his mom's issues.

Sadly for us, OP didn't deem us worthy to see her magnificent wedding photos. Even just one photo with the newly married couple and the clown would have made a lot of people's year.

It's too bad her mother-in-law cannot appreciate the art and legend of OP's wedding photos. Will she hold a vendetta against all clowns for life because of the "clown show" that was her son's wedding?
