If you're both a Disney nerd and a video game nerd, then it doesn't get much cooler than this.

Hailing from Spain, Libertad DelGado is a freelance illustrator and artist who is also a successful author of 3 romance/fantasy novels. By her own account, in her work, you will find "lots of Fantasy, color, a tiny hint of darkness and, in some cases, baffling amounts of silliness."
Undeniably, she is a skilled and talented illustrator and you could spend an incredible amount of time exploring her galleries and gushing over her work without ever growing bored. Of course, we'll make sure to convince you by giving you a glimpse of a unique and very interesting series she did a while ago.
In this series featuring 23 Disney characters, DelGado brings inspiration from the Warcraft universe. You're probably here first and foremost because you are a Disney fan, so if you haven't heard of Warcraft before we'll offer up a brief explanation.
Warcraft is a video game and novel series owned by Blizzard, featuring both real-time strategy games and a massively-multiplayer online role-playing game (AKA MMORPG.) The Warcraft franchise has been around since late 1994 and has a massive fan base.
When it came time to create a series of her own, DelGado chose to mash up Disney and Warcraft. When she posted the first illustration (Snow White,) she said:
"Come on, blame me for zero originality. I had fun XD I love Disney and World of Warcraft, so why not a crossover?"
We've included quotes from the artist as she explains the inspiration and rationale behind each choice she made as she worked her way through two magical, massive universes.
1. Jane - Worgen
"British and Victorian. She started as a pretty, civilized lady, but later she found out a wild side that led her to stay in the jungle (Maybe Tarzan's handsome face and muscles did their part, too). So she's now a Worgen, though I considered gnome and night elf too.
It's hard to make a "furry" girl and make her still recognizable as the Disney human, but at least I tried, and I think she looks sweet and delicate, with a pointy nose and big, turqoise eyes. I can totally see her in Stranglethorn Valley.
(Inner dialogue) "I've got claws now... Niiiice... And I'm married to an apeman, so I wonder what little freaks of nature our sons and daughters will be. Hmmm.""
liberlibelula2. Maleficent - Dragon
"Lots of people wanted her as a Dragon in human aspect and, honestly, that race was the one that suited her best. She probably adopts the shape of a Blood Elf, though her ears are quite tucked inside that headpiece (Maybe that was the real reason why she was so pissed off?). I hope you like her."
liberlibelula3. Lady Tremaine, Anastasia, and Drizella - Night Elf & Harpies
"So why Drizella and Anastasia are harpies is quite clear XD But who could tame them? Harpies seem to be common among Night Elves (they even strike some resemblance) and Lady Tremaine seemed a good fit for the archetype of the high-class, stern, reserved and mean NE who's been through too much and doesn't care about nothing but her own good anymore.
Funny thing is, I never cared much about the Cinderella classic movie until I was older and rewatched it... my god... that Lady Tremaine is EVIL. I guess she's just one of those villains that impact you more when you can understand wickedness better."
liberlibelula4. Princess Tiana - Goblin
""When I look into your future, it's the green that I see..."
Hard-working, modern, independent and a bit sassy, focused in professional success. That's Tiana, and so are goblins. And look! She's got a pet-murloc!"
liberlibelula5. Princess Anna - Dwarf
"Some opinions in the poll finally convinced me that a Dwarf was the best race choice for Anna. She was stubborn, lively and tougher than she seemed. Also, as somebody said, she "braved the eternal winter just to look for her sister".
What's more important to a dwarf than blood and family? Maybe minerals and baby bears, I don't know. Hope you like her!"
liberlibelula6. Aurora / Sleeping Beauty - Undead Horde
"She spent a lot of time sleeping... well, we could say she was in a coma. Probably one step from death. Plus, The Sleeping Beauty has got that gothic look that suits Undead so much. Glowing green lights, dark grey and purple clothing, and that blond hair is one of the colors that you can actually choose in the game for your undead."
liberlibelula7. Heavens Light Esmerelda - Draenei
"God, I love this character. She was fierce, righteous, beautiful, kind and multifaceted. Plus, she danced and wore purple. And she had a goat. Her healing personality, her song "God help the outcasts" and the goat stuff soon made me decide to paint her as a draenei. But only her Heaven side! Because Hellfire is coming..."
liberlibelula8. Gaston - Blood Elf
"Oh, Gaston. I hated it so much when I was a child! I had tiny toy figures of him, Belle and the Beast that came with a little castle. My mother always tells that I (4 years old) would pick Belle and the Beast and play with them; they'd ask me where Gaston was, just in case I had lost him and didn't know where it was.
As a reply, I'd point to the dinner-room table and chairs; there was tiny Gaston, put under the weight of one of the legs of a chair as a punishment for being such a douche. They still laugh to this day. Poor toy, I still have it in perfect condition, though!"
liberlibelula9. Ariel, The Little Mermaid - Gnome
"Spirited, curious and adventurous (and extremely cute), Ariel was a tough one when it came to choose a race. I mean, naga sounded obvious, but nagas are mostly cruel and evil, and they didn't fit this girl. I watched the movie again, listened to the music, and when I saw again her cave, full of hoarded gadgets and weird stuff and how she craved to know more about everything, the race Gnome seemed the best.
I mean... she's a lot like Rapunzel. So, both are gnomes. I hope you like her!"
liberlibelula10. Mulan - Orc
""What do we fight for?"
A GIRL WORTH FIGHTING FOOOOOOR, TURURÚ TURÚ TU-TÚUUU
That's what I shouted the first time I saw the trailer of Mists of Pandaria. Sorry, I couldn't help it.
Honor, family, war and go to death protecting your home. Yes, that's very orcish. Orcs are badass, and Mulan is THE badass Disney girl. Okay, not the only one, but to me, the best. Of course, I gave her an armor of Pandaria, sort of...
I hope you like her!!"
liberlibelula11. Prince Hans - Worgen Rogue
"Another Disney Villain! I've made you wait for so long, sorry. Finding a race fitting for every villain is more difficult than with the girls, and it's quite hard not to make them all BE (They all tend to have elegance, vanity and a lust for power).
But for Hans, I was decided almost from the beginning. The main characteristic in him is deception and two-facedness. He seems an absolute XIX century gentleman, romantic and elegant. But in the end, we discover that he's a terrible beast who won't stop before nothing to get what he wants. No remorse, only determination. Had he not revealed his plan to Anna, nobody would've been able to stop him nor suspect of him until it was too late. Quite rogue-ish, don't you think?
And the brutality. He was going to slice Elsa's head with a sword. Jesus. So here he is, one of the prettiest undercover worgen in the kingdom. Oh, those sideburns!"
liberlibelula12. Queen Grimhilde - Undead Horde
"Beautiful on the outside, rotten to the core on the inside. I imagine Queen Grimhilde (Snow White) as an undead alchemist woman who'd be capable of anything to gain youth and beauty, including stealing a face that isn't hers and sewing it onto her face.
Also, that fixation with Snow White's heart? She probably wanted to eat it. A very undead thing, may I say."
liberlibelula13. Cinderella - Draenei
"Cinderella never was one of my favourites, however, I think I liked her more as I grew, because she was so persevering and kind, even to those who were cruel with her. And she never stopped dreaming and hoping for better days to come, trying to help everybody without distinction.
That's why I chose the race Draenei for her. If something characterizes draeneis, is their faith and their endless hope, even when things look really bad for them. Plus, they're very associated with crystals. Though here, Cindy has got hooves. Oh the irony XD
I tried to give her an outfit that resembled the original silvery dress (I don't know why she's always portrayed in blue. Really. That dress was white and silver. Anyway). It was difficult, as her dress didn't match very well with WoW and I wanted to show her legs. I'm happy with the final picture ^^
Though Cinderella could be considered a redhead, I gave her draenei a pale blond hair, as that's the closest thing a draenei can have to a light human hair. (Another strange thing... in merchandise she's blonde, while in the movie... maybe my eyes are wrong, but isn't her hair more orange than blond?)"
liberlibelula14. Snow White - Dwarf from Forjaz
"I never liked Snow White, she was too wimpy and teeeeender for my taste. Plus, I haaate the color combinations in her dress. But it was another time, so I can't blame Disney for that.
Even if that wasn't my first choice, in the end I thought being a Dwarf was pretty obvious (And necessary) for Snow White. Plus, the strength that dwarven show makes her look really good, with all those furs and the puffy sleeves, and I love that hairstyle that you can actually wear ingame. If you're a dwarf, of course. I've never been a Dwarf, mostly because I'm Horde and my only weakness in the Alliance are the Night Elves.
And there you have a hammer, Snow White. Use it wisely!"
liberlibelula15. Hellfire Esmerelda - Blood Elf
"I love, love, LOVE Esmeralda. She's so versatile that I had to make two pieces for her. And for the race... green eyes, extremely sexy, a strong taste for golden jewellery, red and purple colors and the ability to set anything on fire, let it be the decadent mind of a horny priest? Blood elf."
liberlibelula16. Megara - Forsaken (Undead)
"One of my favourite girls.
At first I wanted to draw her as a goblin, as she is so sassy, but... come on. She's a Forsaken. Super skinny, tortured, sarcastic and completely dissapointed with the whole world. Not to mention that stuff with the Underworld and that time she was diving with all the doomed souls. And she died and now is alive again, so she's an Undead!"
liberlibelula17. Rapunzel - Gnome
"This curious, sweet girl with a wild side had to be a gnome. Gnomes are known for their desire to learn more and more about the world that surrounds them, and also are great engineers and strange, tiny beings (And it feels like a punch in the face when those tiny @//%*ers kill you with a spell or whatever and you can't even see where they came from... luckily, we can now have revenge with our GOBLINS! How does it feel, huh? XDDD)
I know Rapu isn't that platinum blond, but gnomes doesn't have golden hair (Green, pink, light blue, platinum... those they do have). I think she's come out really nice, and she was a lot harder to paint than Snow White. I hope you like her!"
liberlibelula18. Pocahontas - Night Elf Druid
"Wild, wise, brave and one of the most, at least for me, beautiful girls in the story of Disney. Silky dark hair, tall figure, extremely beautiful face and body. She felt a strong connection with animals and nature, as well as speaking trees XD Plus, if you've seen the vanilla WoW intro, you'll probably remember that night elf druid running through the forest, heading to help those who needed her protection.
Almost exactly like Pocahontas ran during the last part of the song "Savages", to save John Smith from the execution. I couldn't get that image out of my head, and for that and a lot of reasons, here you have Pocahontas as a Night Elf druid."
liberlibelula19. Kida - Troll
"At first, I thought she was kinda draenei, but then somebody over here suggested that she would make a great troll, and wow, that was true! Plus, they're my favourite race ^^
Think of it... Trolls had an enormous empire that falled apart in its own decadence, but even now, when they're fighting to preserve their culture and rise again, finding unlikely allies in other strange species, they keep a piece of their ancient power and union with their ancestors and spirits. Just like Atlantean people."
liberlibelula20. Ice Queen Elsa - Mage
"The cold never bothered you anyway, Elsa. But I'm not that sure about plate underwear.
Aaaaanyway, here's Elsa by popular demand! Northrend was her place, and I'm not sure about her race. Maybe some kind of half-highelf, half-human, mixed with a val'kyr? Frost mage? I don't know, Elsa is so cool that she could make a new non-playable race on her own.
And because she looks so pretty in black with a horned tiara"
liberlibelula21. Merida - Dwarven
"I chose Dwarven race for Merida because, let's be honest, everything in her screams Dwarf: Her family, her physical appearance, the archery and the bear affinity, and of course, her personality.
Please forgive me if the archery pose is not right. I know nothing about this art"
liberlibelula22. Princess Jasime / Slave Jasmine - Blood Elf
"She's turned out far better than I expected. It looks like she was meant to be a Blood Elf! Fire mage or rogue, you decide ^^. His temper and almost-sassy ways fit into the Sin´dorei typical attitude. Also, anybody has seen Silvermoon? It's Agrabah. Just look at those beds at any BE's inn.
Also, I chose the red costume because Jasmine looks so pretty in red, and it served perfectly to my purposes. Mwahahahaha.
I hope you like her!"
liberlibelula23. Belle - Huojin Pandaren (Worgen)
"This one was difficult to choose, but I knew from the beginning that she was not going to be a Worgen, sorry.
Stucked in a "provincial life", Belle always wanted to know the inmense world that existed beyond the mists and frontiers of her little world. As a bookworm, she could travel anywhere she wanted through books and ancient stories, but that was not enough.
She knew there had to be something more, until the mists dissapeared and she knew the strangers. Both worlds collided and she wished that she had never left her town, but then, she discovered an unexpected ally in who at first seemed a scary stranger (Beast), and knew that the true evil had been inside her tiny town the whole time (Gaston).
Sounds like the story of a Pandaren, huh? Also, Huojin pandaren. The way she got out of her prison when Gaston locked her in the basement shows true Goblin spirit"
liberlibelulaSincerely, this series is creative. You don't have to be an art enthusiast, Warcraft aficionado, or even a dedicated Disney nerd to appreciate the effort and skill it must have taken to create these characters.
