Redditors Dish Out Expert Advice To Lady Seeking Ways To Stop Her Roommate From Hearing Everything She Does In The Bathroom

We frequently spend a lot of time in the kitchen and the bathroom; in a sense, it's like a space becomes a microcosm of our lives. It is natural to use the restroom and toilet, and we spend around 2% of our lives in this space.

The bathroom is a crucial area that is dedicated to our privacy and serves as a haven. It might be the only place we can find time for ourselves.

The bathroom is without a doubt the most frequently used room in your home. Every member of your family makes use of them frequently each day so it is used continuously.

Your bathroom is used from the moment you wake up in the morning until you go to bed at night (and occasionally even in the middle of the night). They are used for many other activities as well, like taking showers and baths and getting ready for the day.

For the OP of today's story, she needed complete privacy to do her business in the bathroom, but she didn't have that. The problem is that there is absolutely no soundproofing between OP's roommate's room and bathroom.

When the OP is on the toilet in the bathroom, she can literally hear the covers rustling from her roommate turning in bed, and the roommate can hear everything she does in the bathroom. The OP is now seeking affordable solutions for this.

From a Redditor who shares the OP's plight

In Japan this is a very common type of embarrassment. Most of their toilets have a running water sound built in, so once you sit down the water starts running. My first night in Japan I thought I broke the toilet when I heard this happen. :P It took a minute before my friend and I could figure out what was going on.

From this, I would recommend running the water whenever your using the toilet. As well, someone mentioned dropping toilet paper in the toilet before you go, which is another alternative. Or do both at once!

I also lived in a house with very thin walls, so I can empathize. The first time I heard my roommates having sex it was a bit uncomfortable but I eventually got over it. I typically knew roughly when they were going to go at it, and so most of the time I would but my earbuds in to drown them out.

For some people, the bathroom serves as a retreat, especially for a master bath. It's a quiet location where you can prepare for the day, unwind after a tough day at work, and meditate.

You can thoroughly unwind there by yourself, unwind in the bathtub, and enjoy a warm, peaceful shower, but the OP has no privacy doing this, and she needs a solution. Drop your advice for her in the comments section below.
