An everlasting battle between parents and their teenage offspring is a tough one, with no clear winner. From time to time, a small victory is won, but not enough to upset the balance of forces.
Kids would like to be adults, but they have no idea what that actually implies. They want to be treated like adults, but without any of the obligations and commitments that grown people have.
It is hard to deal with teenagers, even when both parents are around. Being a single mom makes it so much harder.
Heidi Johnson is a single mother, and she had a conflict with her 13-year-old son, who believed she had no right telling him what to do because he started to earn his own money.
She shared online a note that she wrote for him.
Mom showed her son what being adult really means.
Heidi JohnsonAnd how did her son respond?
Heidi JohnsonShe didn’t expect her Facebook post with the note to go viral, and she was surprised by the number of messages and comments she received. And as always on the internet, many of them were downright bullying. Probably from people that don’t even have kids or those who have kids spoiled and poorly mannered.
She then clarified what happened and how the lesson worked, and her son started to earn his things back again.
“ And, you know what… this hasn’t hurt our relationship. He and I still talk as openly as ever. He has apologized multiple times. He even removed some luxuries from his room that I missed. And… he is trying harder. Just because he is doing things better doesn’t mean he gets everything back in one grandeur leap of faith; he earns a little back at a time.”
