Sometimes when we get told about historical events we can lose sight of the other cultural milestones and events taking place at the same time. Sometimes things we consider to be very modern took place years prior.

On the other hand, things we think took place a long time ago were actually more recent than we are led to believe. an example of this time trickery is when you discover two unrelated historical figures were born the same year.

Here are some instances where two events you thought happened years apart actually took place around the same time. These will truly mess with your perception of time and make you question what you truly know about history.

Both Queen Elizabeth and Marilyn Monroe were born in 1926. Harriet The Tortoise (Who Passed Away in 2006) Had Traveled Charles Darwin

Harriet the tortoise was reportedly picked up by Charles Darwin during his 1835 trip to the Galápagos Islands as part of his round-the-world expedition. She was then transported to England before arriving at her final destination in Australia where she lived for the rest of her life before passing away in Australia Zoo in 2006. Harriet was estimated to be around 175 at the time of her passing at the Queensland zoo.

Woolly Mammoths Were Still Roaming Around While The Pyramids were Being Built (2660 BCE)

It has been determined by scientists that Woolly Mammoths were on the earth until 1650 BC. Meanwhile, the Pyramid of Djoser (the oldest of the 'Great Pyramids' in Egypt) was constructed between 2630 BC–2611 BC.

Nintendo was Founded When Jack The Ripper Was at Large (1889)

In 1889 Nintendo (the Japanese gaming company) was founded. Nintendo wasn't as we know it to be today. Today they are known for iconic characters such as Mario, Donkey Kong, Zelda and the Pokemon characters but back then they were known for playing cards called hanafuda.

Meanwhile, the serial killer Jack the Ripper (who was never officially identified) was at large on the streets of London. Jack the Ripper was the prime suspect in the murder of an also unidentified woman only known as 'The Pinchin Street Torso,' as that was all that had been found of her. This murder took place mere weeks before Nintendo began operating.

Anne Frank And Martin Luther King Junior Were Born In The Same Year (1929)

Martin Luther King Jr. was an American Baptist minister and activist who became the most iconic figure of the civil rights movement. Remembered today for his "I have a dream" speech.

Anne Frank is the most discussed Jewish victims of the Holocaust. She gained fame posthumously with the publication of The Diary of a Young Girl (also known as The Diary of Anne Frank), a collection of diary entries from Frank whilst in hiding between 1942 to 1944 during the German occupation of the Netherlands in World War II.

Both of these historical figures were born in 1929. Other people born in 1929 include Barbara Walters, Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly and Christopher Plummer.

The first McDonald's opened it's doors on May 15th 1940. At the time the now behemoth worldwide fast food franchise was a family business operated by sibling Richard and Maurice McDonald. Later their business was expanded to the one we know today with the help of businessman Ray Kroc. Just 5 days after the siblings opened their store, the first prisoners arrived at the Auschwitz concentration camp in an area now known as Poland.

The Eiffel Tower was Inaugurated for the World's Fair in 1889, the Same Year Van Gogh's 'Starry Night' was Painted

The Starry Night (painted in 1889) is both one of Van Gogh's most iconic paintings as well as being one of the most iconic works of art in the history of western culture. The iconic painting was painted on the same year that the also iconic Eiffel Tower was built. The tower was originally built only as an entrance to the 'World Fair' in Paris that year but later was made a permanent fixture and now an icon of Paris.

Silent film star Charlie Chaplin died in Corsier-sur-Vevey (a municipality in Switzerland) on December 25th 1977 at age 88 after suffering a stroke in his sleep. Earlier that year, the California based Apple Computer, Inc. was incorporated on January 3rd.
