Family members are usually some of the best people in a person's life. They care for you, love you, and stand by you no matter what.

However, it's not all roses and rainbows. They can also be a thorn in a person's flesh.

Different issues may arise in a family due to chore distribution, lack of communication, unappreciated efforts, and the list goes on and on. The truth is, sometimes, family dynamics are just too complex for our understanding.

The relationship between a parent and their child, for example, requires some level of strictness and understanding, but there has to be a balance. And this is where many people miss it.

Some parents may be too strict, so much so that they may refuse to listen to their children because they believe they have more knowledge than them.

While they aren't wrong, it would be inaccurate to assume that parents can't learn a thing or two from their kids. The continuous refusal to listen or make amends usually results in increased tension and may lead to poor relationships between parents and kids in the long run.

We found a story on the AITA subreddit that extensively explores the complexities of family dynamics.

A 16-year-old girl recently vented to the AITA community on Reddit about how she was fed up with her father's behavior and the way he spoke to her mother and siblings upon his return from work.

In her words;

My dad just gets home at the end of the day and literally complains about everything, like how the carpet isn’t clean or how the food is cold.

She had a grand plan, including a suit, some black tape, and her best acting talents to demonstrate the outward appearance of his acts.

Therefore, in order to drive home her point, she chose to mimic his boorish behavior

OP decided to share her family drama with the Reddit community. And it's certainly an interesting read for anyone.

Giving her dad a piece of his own medicine

OP devised a plan to show her father her contempt for his attitude. She wore a suit, put black tape over her mouth as a makeshift mustache, and started to mimic her father.

It was undoubtedly a show that no one in the family would forget in a hurry.

Everyone thought it was funny...except her dad, of course

OP's dad later said that she mocked and invalidated him. Although her mother found it hilarious, she agreed that OP could have passed the message in a different way.

Here's how the Reddit community reacted to the story:

"NTA. You held up a mirror to his behavior, and he didn't like what he saw"

"The fact he went quiet, instead of exploding in anger, to me says there is hope! Like many, MANY dudes his age he struggles to process those emotions, but he recognized he was feeling more embarrassed / hurt than angry it seems"

Throwaway61565 / reddit.com

"Your other methods fell on deaf ears, this one appeared to hit home. Good for you, OP"

Throwaway61565 / reddit.com

"People need to see how they're behaving reflected back at them to truly understand. Good job. NTA"

"Breadwinner doesn’t mean you get to throw your weight around as soon as you get home. Breadwinner with a SAH parent should ultimately be praising the SAH parent for continually keeping the place tidy, and taking care of cooking/children"

Throwaway61565 / reddit.com

"NTA. All you did was show him how he is. If it was embarrassing for him, well he shouldn't act that way then"

Throwaway61565 / reddit.com

"The good news is that he was embarrassed instead of just angry. There may be hope yet"

Throwaway61565 / reddit.com

"You tried to get the message across in other ways but he didn’t get it. So you tried a new way. Seems like he got the message this time"

"A SAHP is working two full time jobs with no pay and ridiculous overtime"

Throwaway61565 / reddit.com

"NTA. LMAO, you are my hero! And yes you did hurt your dad's feelings, but he deserved it"

Throwaway61565 / reddit.com

"He complained on being invalidated and disrespected, he should consider the fact what he does is exactly the treatment he gives to everyone in your home on a daily basis"

Throwaway61565 / reddit.com

"You're a delightful human"

"Maybe in a week or two talk to him about his behavior with your mom"

"He didn't even realize he was looking in the mirror until the end"

People in the comments section had many opinions to share, but one thing we can make out is that OP has a lot of supporters.

Many people believe OP had only held a mirror to her dad and showed him how his actions were affecting the family.

However, her mum stated that tho it was funny, she could have handled it differently.

Do you think OP’s actions were wrong or do you feel her dad deserved what he got? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
