Responsible Senior University Student Gets Credit Card, Her Brother And His Wife Demand To Borrow It Because It's "Free Money"

At 22 years old, a senior college student better understands credit cards than her 28-year-old brother. The OP lives at home with her parents.

She pays £300/ month in rent and is responsible for her phone plan, subscriptions, wants, and needs. OP lives within her means and puts as much as she can into her savings account.

She decided to get a credit card. She thought it was the best way to learn how to manage and build credit wisely.

She imposed a £100 spending limit on herself to avoid getting buried in credit card debt. She used her credit card twice for purchases that amounted to £80.

OP doesn't plan on breaking her rule anytime soon. She told her father about the credit card she recently acquired.

She avoided telling her mom because she couldn't keep a secret, especially not from OP's brother and his wife. Unknown to OP and her dad, her mom overheard their conversation.

Soon enough, her brother and sister-in-law visited to ask OP if they could use her card. The couple admitted that they had debt caused by their careless use of credit cards.

They said OP's credit card was "basically free money" because she had no outstanding balance. OP told her brother and his wife she was uncomfortable with the idea of them using her credit card.

They stopped hounding her for a few days. Then, they showed up at the house to convince OP again.

They asked nicely at first until it was clear OP wouldn't change her mind.

They tried to employ the help of her mom to guilt OP into handing over her credit card.

Her brother said OP owed them this much because they babysat her when she was younger. OP laughed at her brother's face and left.

The couple got kicked out of the house when they tried to manipulate OP's dad. Three people manipulating her messed with OP's head. Should she let her brother and his wife use her credit card?

OP should do exactly as she did if they brought up borrowing her credit card again. Refuse to engage and leave.

It might be time to freeze her credit if they do something unethical and try to open credit cards under her name.

The last thing this couple needs is access to another credit card. They are irresponsible credit card holders.

OP needs to stay vigilant because this may not be the last manipulative attempt of her brother and his wife. OP is on the right track, she shouldn't let her brother and his wife's drama distract her from her goals.
