Redditor Refuses To Forgive Their Cousin For Selling The $2K Gaming Laptop They Gifted To Her Son To Buy Drugs
Drug addiction has many effects on the individual who uses substances. Not only that, but as the addiction progresses, the developments become clear and only worsen with time.
The health effects of drug addiction can sometimes be seen instantly, but some aspects take much more to develop and become apparent. It can also lead to increasing financial troubles, loss of jobs, and trouble with the law.
Sadly, addiction is something that doesn't just affect the addict but everyone around them as well. A drug or alcohol problem can harm immediate family members as well; whether it's a parent, spouse, or child, addiction affects the lives of anyone close to the person.

The cousin started avoiding any discussions about gaming and the laptop, which OP found strange.

OP eventually ended up finding out what had happened to the laptop.

The aunt never apologized for the laptop theft, and OP's family wants her to forget all about it.

OP thinks they might potentially be the a-hole for the following reason:

Theft, especially from your own child, should not be ignored and disregarded.

She can pay the money back, and all will be forgiven.

That would be the more appropriate "sorry."

Living with a drug addict is a challenging thing to deal with.

The son is trapped in a terrible situation that everyone is ignoring.

The truth might be uncomfortable, but it still has to be addressed.

The aunt blames everything on her addiction.

Apologizing is the least she could do.

If OP presses charges, it could ruin the cousin's life even more.

The aunt has to acknowledge her mistake and apologize.

The poor kid deserves a better life than this.

Pretending that this is normal will only make things worse.

Exposing her in front of everyone might be a little extreme.

Dealing with inconsiderate parents is the absolute worst.

Thankfully, the option to move out is always on the table.

Op has every right not to pretend everything is normal and ignore the aunt's theft. She stole from her own kid, and that's not something you disregard and sweep under the rug.
She has to apologize and compensate Op for the computer she stole. If you enjoyed reading this, make sure to check out similar content on our platform.
