A Reddit user with the handle u/cyphunik shared an interesting story. They said: “TIFU by helping my friend's dog with her "scooting."

And if the title sounds a bit bizarre, just wait till you read the rest of the country. And, no, the OP is not in any way animal care professional.

Doesn’t even own animals. So, basically, we have an “I am not a doctor, but I can look” story.

OP writes: ”I was at my friend's house the other day and they'd mentioned that their pug had been "scooting" occasionally. I witnessed it on one occasion and the dog seemed a bit uncomfortable.

I've never really been around dogs, but I knew enough to know that it was likely an anal gland issue, just from hearing other dog owners mention it…”

Sound like a person you would trust with draining your dog’s anal glands…But the important thing is that OP was confident.

After all, self-confidence equals knowledge and expertise, right? Of course, we are being sarcastic.

“I watched a quick video showing how to fix the issue and it looked really easy, so I asked them if I should see if I can fix it, just real quick.” But it didn’t turn out as well as he had expected…

And instead of saying something like “so sorry, I hope you will fix it soon. Maybe it will go away on its own,” as any other person would do, our OP decides to do the second-worst thing possible (with the first one being burning down the house or something). He actually suggested doing the procedure himself.

What followed wasn't pretty at all. By any standard.

Many dog owners have been in this unpleasant situation. Your dog starts brazenly scooting their bottom across the floor in front of everyone as you and a few guests are seated in your living room.

What in God's name made OP say, “hey, I’ll give it a go?” Why?

It is understandable to do this for your own dog. It is also understandable if you are a professional and want to help the poor animal.

But being a complete amateur and deciding to do something like that. And in the middle of the living room, without any protective gear….

Simply crazy.
