As anyone who has ever had a cat knows, it doesn’t take long for them to become a part of the family. Some people even think of cats as a very furry kind of children!
And, as everyone knows, there are few things as bad a losing a family member, even a cat. The most heartbreaking sign to see taped to a tree or electrical pole, is one for a missing cat.
It is such a sad feeling imagining the stress and heartbreak that a family must be going through, and it's easy for fellow cat lovers to empathize. This story starts with missing cat signs and ends with human and cat being reunited a whole twelve years later!
Vicki Swainson, then 19, was left devastated after watching her beloved cat jump from a window while moving house and run off.
She spent all day searching near her home in West Yorkshire for her three-year-old back cat named Gucci, but couldn't find him.
Vicky Swainson (via The Daily Mail)She had placed dozens of "missing cat" posts and wandered around everywhere looking for him.
She told The Daily Mail:
"We were hoping to get him used to the new place but while we were moving he just escaped from his room and disappeared.
We saw him jump into a nearby allotment and went to look for him but everywhere we searched we couldn't find him. We tried calling for him, we tried shaking his favourite biscuits, we tried everything."
Vicky Swainson (via The Daily Mail)Then, one day last month, Vicky got a phone call from the vet.
Someone had been feeding Gucci for a few months as he roamed the streets. The cat lover had noticed he had lost some weight, so they took Gucci to the vet.
Which is when they found the microchip and called his owner--twelve years after he went missing!
Vicky Swainson (via The Daily Mail)Now 31 years old, Vicky recalled the moment she was reunited with her adorable cat:
"I went to get him on Friday afternoon and I knew it was him immediately.
I'd like to think he recognised me as well because as soon as I picked him up he was cuddling me and purring. It was such a strange feeling; something I never expected to go through.
I didn't think I'd ever hold him again, yet here I was, holding Gucci like when I was a teenager--it was surreal"
Vicky Swainson (via The Daily Mail)Unfortunately, Vicky's current cat, Larry aged 7, wouldn't get along with Gucci, so Gucci has moved in with her dad--and is very happy there.
This beautiful story just shows how important it is to get your cats micro-chipped!
