There are some cruel people out there. It’s heartbreaking to see so many pets abused and abandoned by their owners.

They are giving their unconditional love and devotion but get maltreatment and rejection in return. Duke, a 10-month-old dog, was chained to an old truck outside of town and left to starve by his heartless owner.

Without food and water for ten days, Duke was extremely underweight and could barely stand. His fur was covered in his own feces and flea infected.

In addition, his legs were broken, possibly from prior abuse. In that state, Duke had little chance of surviving.

Luckily, sometimes these stories have happy endings, and one kind woman and the Rudozem Street Dog Rescue made sure this is one of them. They’ve saved Duke and helped him recover. It’s a real happy ending.

“It was a real shock when the vet said this was trauma to his feet,” Rowles from Rudozem Street Dog Rescue says.

“They were obviously broken. His feet were shattered. The ligaments in his feet were nonexistent. Bones were just floating about in his feet.”

Since their shelter was full, he took Duke home and introduced him to his partner and other pets.

"He was OK when I approached him initially. But you could see that fear in the way he moved and the way he backed away for those first few weeks,” Rowles told the reporters. “He really made an attachment with my wife Diane. He just loved Diane.”

Duke underwent a surgical procedure to fix his feet and was soon able to walk around. Sometimes the scars on the soul are the hardest to heal.

But luckily, Duke won’t have that problem. He will learn to trust humans again in no time because he was adopted by one of the kindest women in the UK.

Well, this is a true happy ending, just like we’ve promised. But, unfortunately, many animals out there don’t get their happy ending.

It’s incredible how cruel we can be to animals. Well, the way we treat each other is no better.

Luckily, we have people who are willing to step up and help the poor animals. These heroes from our story, for instance.

Thanks to Rudozem Street Dog Rescue, Duke now has a loving home. We wish them all the best and less work.
