You might think animals of different species may not click well as friends. Well, you can be wrong as this special needs pup named Winnie found not another dog best friend but a piglet (yes, you read that right, a rescue piglet named Wilma!)
Having developmental issues, Winnie's family realized that they could hardly care for him. So, they brought him to Charlotte's Freedom Farm when he was just around six weeks old.
Not only were his front legs underdeveloped, but also his sternum. He needs to undergo some extensive thoracic reconstruction surgeries to have his heart and lungs adequately protected.
He used to play with the rest of the dogs at the sanctuary. However, as the play can become too rough, and considering him to be at high risk, in the meantime, his activities have been limited and should be under close supervision.
Everyone in the sanctuary felt bad for Winnie as he felt left out and alone. Then Wilma, the cute piglet, came. It seemed that for the two, it was an instant click.
Their friendship is unquestionable. From the day they saw each other, they became close friends. Their closeness proved to all who witnessed their extraordinary bond that they are also soulmates.
Winnie is in high spirits.
As a special needs puppy, these wheels enable Winnie to move around with ease.
CHARLOTTE'S FREEDOM FARMMeet the sweet and sassy Wilma.
Wilma was a stray piglet. Her rescuers found her wandering around and brought her to the sanctuary. They believed that she jumped off from a truck full of livestock.
Wilma was an instant charmer as she captured his heart right away. Aside from being a sweet little piggy, she is also very lively. She loves to scream her heart out each time one of the caretakers would pick her up.
CHARLOTTE'S FREEDOM FARMThey love to play on the couch.
Wilma quickly learned how to jump her way on top of the couch. That has become her habit now.
That very moment when she arrived at the sanctuary, she made it clear to all the animals there that it was him whom she had chosen to be her best friend and made it even official!
CHARLOTTE'S FREEDOM FARMThese two are inseparable.
There was no sense of aggression at all on their first meeting. Within minutes, they immediately played with each other.
Unlike playing with other dogs, playing with Wilma is safer for Winnie. Although caretakers still have to keep an eye on them for his safety, that has not stopped them from being together.
They love to hang outside too.
Winnie loves to watch Wilma as she searches around for insects.
Winnie and Wilma exactly complement each other.
Wilma was what Winnie needed exactly as his companion. In turn, Wilma needed Winnie to adapt and feel at home in her new environment while still in quarantine away from the other swine.
Both of them bring much joy to each other that loneliness has no place for this pair.
Unlikely to be best friends but proved to be a perfect match for each other.
We could only hope this cute pair would stay as best friends even if Wilma outgrows Winnie soon. Soon, Wilma will grow into a full-grown pig and will weigh around 800 pounds or so.
Their kind of friendship melted the hearts of many - even the coldest of hearts. It made us realize that animals belonging to different species can get along well for mutual benefits such as warmth, protection, and social therapy.
If their bond melted your heart as well, share this with your family and friends too.
