For most people, parrots are the cute birds that say funny stuff in movies, often in the most inappropriate moment, and always unaware of what they are saying. Parrot owners know better- they don’t just repeat phrases they hear most often. They are quite smart and sometimes pretty much aware of the surroundings and the moment.

One study on African grey parrots showed that some of these birds can engage in basic conversation and can learn up to 2000 different words. So, if they do something amusing, it may be on purpose, not just a coincidence.
