Do you remember what it was like to be a school-aged child? For months you work and study hard, wake up early, grumble through your days, and lurch home to look forward to one of two things: a long weekend or summer vacation. And summer vacation? It was the best, the absolute best. Sleeping in, sleep-overs, swimming, bicycles, camping, fishing, mischief, and friendship. Summer was everything to you as a child and today it is everything to your children. Even if today there is a lot more video games and stranger danger, summer is still the definitive bee's knees for kids.

Twenty years ago parents didn't think twice about their children running wild from sun up to sun down in the neighborhood with their friends but today's parents are not awarded the same luxuries. Today's parents need to know that their kids are safe 24/7 and it manages to be both exhausting and expensive. So when that first day of the new school year rolls back around it's no surprise to see children grumbling at least a little bit that their summer fun is over, but it is surprising to see how today's parents are acting on that glorious first day of school! Totally stoked, usually. It's like a guaranteed 6-8 hours where you aren't personally responsible for entertaining your children, it's someone else's problem. And parents are celebrating the only way a modern parent knows how: posting hilarious pictures to social media.
