A Redditor was a part of a benign yet hilarious family prank even before she was born. The OP's mom has an undeniably Eastern European name.
Her paternal grandmother hated that her golden child, OP's father, married someone with an "odd" name. Her grandmother made a snark remark when OP's parents announced that they were expecting.
She said, "You better not give it one of those weird European names." Annoyed by the grandma's reaction, OP's parents started to refer to their bundle of joy as Rasputin.
They kept their real name choices secrets from OP's grandparents. Her grandma couldn't even make any guesses because OP's gender was also a closely held secret.
It infuriated OP's grandma. Not being privy to her grandchild's name and gender made OP's grandma a nightmare to deal with.
OP's parents took that as a confirmation to double down on their prank. OP's maternal grandmother, who was Ukrainian, even made a hat with traditional Ukrainian embroidery on it.
OP's parents also involved the hospital nurses in their petty revenge. They asked for OP to be swaddled in a blue blanket instead of white or pink.
Infant OP wore the baby hat her grandma embroidered for her. Her paternal grandparents met OP in all of her Rasputin glory.
OP's mom announced, "Meet your grandson, Rasputin," as soon as OP's grandparents walked in to meet her.
u/AetraShe said they got attached to the name and decided to keep it. Grandma's feelings about OP's name were evident in all of the photos taken that day.
u/AetraThe joke lasted for two more hours before OP's grandpa was finally told of her real name and gender. He loved the prank because it annoyed his wife. Razzie was her grandpa's special nickname for OP until he passed on.
u/AetraRasputin was the perfect prank name to show grandma where her xenophobic opinions belonged.
404UserNktFoundFor those curious, OP did share that her given name is Rebecca. She misspelled it initially because Rasputin is easier.
AetraAre you by chance related to the Centralperk family of New York City?
LeanintreeAll I can hear is how Anthony Hopkins said Clarice in Silence of the Lambs.
aurordreamI wonder how grandma reacted when OP's real name was finally revealed.
AsimazlingWhy are they so personally offended by baby names?
Slightlysanemomof5OP had the perfect nickname. Her grandma probably made a face whenever OP's grandpa called her by her nickname.
capincus, AetraPatrushka could have been grandma's nickname if she didn't like it for OP.
Individual-Army811, AetraDid her grandma ever forgive OP's parents for making her believe she was named after Rasputin?
Advanced_Doctor2938OP's mom and grandma got along fine when grandma was a little buzzed. Her parents and grandfather made sure OP's grandma didn't go too far with her meddling.
AetraThe nurses were so cool for also joining in on the fun. The painstakingly embroidered baby hat sealed the deal and made the prank incredibly effective.
OP's petty revenge story made a lot of Redditors smile. Her parents and grandpa chose an appropriate nickname for OP if this story proved anything.
