Cosplay of X-Men’s Mystique in Mid-Transformation Astonishes Everyone at NYCC
The New York Comic-Con crowd was astounded by one creative and original Mystique costume. Rebecca Lindsay, who has been to NYCC for the past seven years, unveiled the Marvel character's shape-shifting transformation.
But this costume was different - it showed Mystique in mid-transformation. She searched the Internet for Army costumes and electric blue bodysuits since she realized she wanted to showcase all aspects of the character.
She trimmed off the superfluous blue from the suit with the aid of her mother, then stitched the uniform on top. The use of sequins not only provided a fun makeup challenge but also served to conceal the seams of the clothing.
Lindsay's face appears to be changing due to the sequins marching across the diagonal of her face. The expertly constructed red and silver wigs cover Lindsay's naturally blonde hair to complete the amazing outfit.
She writes on Cosplay in America: “The response at the convention was super positive. Everyone (even a lot of artists and vendors) loved seeing a different type of transformation.”
The way Lindsay demonstrated that you don't have to be a tough comic book cosplayer while wearing scantily dressed clothing was perhaps even more stunning.

"Making it was tough and I totally had my mom sew me in to the thing and help glue on the sequins," Lindsay said. "I used an army costume from Ebay and a cheapo body suit from Amazon. We just cut off the extra and sewed the uniform on top of the blue. The sequins helped cover up all the seems. I also used two wigs and sewed those things together (so tough!!!) and sprayed the mystique hair bright red."Lindsey wrote: “The response at the convention was super positive. Many people consider Rebecca Lindsay's creation to be the most amazing Mystique cosplay they have ever seen. Jody Houser took pictures of the outfit, which combined a green army uniform with a bedazzled blue bodysuit, and posted them to Instagram around midday on the second day of NYCC.
Within a few hours, the picture had spread to Reddit, Imgur, Twitter, and other websites. Over 5 million people have now viewed Lindsay's Mystique cosplay on Imgur, and it has gotten thousands of upvotes on numerous Reddit threads.
Everyone says that the dress is gorgeous and quite innovative.
