The truth is, Museum curators are up to their ears in weird stuff, so much so that, some of it isn't at all fit for putting on display. In fact, there are many niche museums out there, and they don't at all get the attention that the Smithsonian does.

They're all about local, even rural history. Some specific interests, and those collections are the strangest of them all. The Yorkshire Museum is completely "Britain's Finest Archaeological Treasures, And A Walk Through The Jurassic Landscapes Of Yorkshire," per their website.

Not only that, but that also have bizarre themes too. One even showed up as the start of a Twitter thread concerning 'creepiest museum objects'.
