Moana Sequel Is In The Works At Disney Right As We Speak

Back in 2016, Disney released the animated film, Moana, with Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson and Auli'i Cravalho voice acting as Maui and Moana respectively. This film became critically-acclaimed and grossed $643 million worldwide, while also picking up two Academy Award nominations due to the amazing musical numbers, the astounding storyline, and beautiful animation.

According to wegotthiscovered.com, inside sources at Disney Animation have leaked that they have begun work on the sequel to Moana, which will reportedly feature Johnson and Cravalho reprising their roles. This should come as no surprise to fans, due to the first films massive success.

Moana was based on Polynesian mythology

The film followed Moana, the daughter of a village chief, as she tries to discover a way to break a curse by returning a magic relic to the goddess Te Fiti with the demigod Maui's help.

While no leaks of the plot have come out, many fans are hoping that the sequel will not have a romantic storyline, which was a very much appreciated thing about the first film.

Hopefully, we don't have to wait too long for this film, but Disney fans are no stranger for waiting years for sequels to happen. Frozen 2 is going to be released 6 years after the original, Zootopia is also getting the sequel treatment and that movie also came out in the same year as Moana. And let us not forget Toy Story, which has followups around a decade later for the newer releases.
