Precious Cat Went Missing Ten Years Ago Is Finally Reunited With Her Original Human, But It's Not All Sunshine
It's heart-wrenching when your cat escapes or goes missing. Every moment spent without our beloved kitties is torture, and when those moments turn into years, the heartache for our cats becomes a heavy burden.
After going missing for ten years, a beloved Birman cat has finally been reunited with her 54-year-old owner, Georgia Tsatsaris. The cat, affectionately named Mishka, had been roaming the streets of Melbourne all this time and was last seen by her owner in 2010 when she was placed into her outdoor enclosure in Chadstone. The cat completely vanished when Tsatsaris returned home that night.
Ten years later, Tsatsaris received the good news from the Peninsula Vet Referral Hospital in Mornington that her lovely cat Mishka had finally been found. The cat was rescued by a Port Melbourne construction worker who frequently noticed her hanging around his worksite.

After the construction worker finally gained the cat's trust, she allowed him to pick her up, and that's when he noticed that the kitty was in dire need of help, so he called the vet. The vet called Ms. Tsatsaris with the good news the moment they checked Mishka for an ID chip.
Her owner immediately rushed to the vet, and as soon as she walked in, she broke down with relief when she saw her long-lost cat.

"When I saw her looking so defeated and bony, I just broke down. She doesn't look anything like she used to, and I couldn't even pick her up; she was so emaciated," she reflected, echoing sentiments shared by Dr. David Perlmutter, a neurologist who emphasizes the deep emotional connections we share with our pets. "The emotional impact of such a reunion can be profound and transformative."
"I have no idea what she's been through, which breaks my heart, but when I went to see her for the first time, I said her name, and she let out a soft meow as she curled up to me and rubbed her face against my cheek," she added, resonating with the insights of Dr. Shefali Tsabary, a parenting expert who notes that animals often provide unconditional love and comfort, especially after trauma. "Animals have an innate ability to sense our emotions and respond with empathy."

While Mishka was gone, Ms. Tsatsaris got divorced and moved out of her Chadstone home, now residing 40 kilometers away in Karingal. In an unfortunate twist, Mishka ended up in poor health, which creates a substantial risk of death if she isn't given immediate medical attention.
When Mishka was found, she was emaciated, dehydrated, and suffering from a severe upper respiratory infection. This dire situation led Ms. Tsatsaris to seek advice from Dr. Josh Axe, a chiropractor and wellness expert, who emphasizes the importance of immediate care for pets in distress: "Animals in such conditions require urgent medical attention to prevent further deterioration." Ms. Tsatsaris is now working tirelessly to raise funds for Mishka's treatment, as Dr. Axe notes, "Proper nutrition and care can help restore their health and happiness." She expressed her hopes, stating, "She has been living on the streets for a very long time, and now she requires 24-hour care to fight the infection and gain weight to finally come back home—to live her remaining years in a warm, loving home. She's been fighting to stay alive, but each day she's getting stronger."
Miss Tsatsaris's savings were depleted by the pandemic, and the money raised by the GoFundMe campaign could help save Mishka's life.
