Photographer Pablo Iglesias Maurer's came up with a brilliant idea one day after he noticed an old matchbook laying on his desk that had a postcard-like picture printed on it displaying a tourist complex built in 1960.
The picture got Pablo so intrigued about all the different places on the postcards and how they might look now, so he decided to start a series called "Abandoned States" where he executed his vision.
The first picture was about the Penn Hills Resort whose owner failed to maintain its success, which is ironic considering that resort's slogan back then was "How to Run A Successful Golf Course". Pablo placed the camera approximately at the same spot the original picture was taken in 5 decades ago and took the shot.
From that moment onwards, he ordered a couple more 60s postcards from eBay and started visiting each defunct location to show how the once idyllic places had fallen into disrepair and decay.
"The postcards, have their own haze—the places were never as nice as they look. I often struggle to get the two images to line up, as well. But time blurs the difference, and brings everything into focus."
