I swear no one in the world loves a good meme more than I do, honestly if it weren't for memes- I wouldn't have social media at all.
So for every meme we see, there is a person (or animal) IRL behind it. Who would've thunk it, right?
It's always interesting to see where social media instant stardom can take a person or animal. Especially with something as simple as a snapped photo. With thousands of memes created from a single photograph, the one thing we can do is thank the meme God's that they were originally shared with the world to begin with. I mean, where would we be as a society without them?
The original vs now- Please remain seated for this ride. :)
1. Blinking white dude aka utter annoyance.
The short GIF stars Drew Scanlon, a podcaster and gaming journalist. It was taken from a video in which Scanlon is reacting while watching someone play a video game. Today, while he resembles Beck, Scanlon runs Cloth Map, which describes itself as a “Youtube travel show which explores cultures through games and sports.”
This is quite literally a classic and one of my favorites.
All about the memes, memes, memes.
2. Thinker thinker breaker 1-9. Roll Safe.
Roll Safe comes from a 2015 mockumentary short called “Hood Documentary”. It just so happens to star actor Kayode Ewumi who played an exaggerated character named Roll Safe or “R.S.”.
Today the British performer has a lengthy index of credits on IMDb that derived from the role.
3. First world problems white girl style.
Who would've thought that the face of white privilege and tenuousness would be of an Italian actress by the name of Silvia Bottini. The original was actually taken from a stock photo website that she used to model for. The original photo went so viral, that it actually made her the most downloaded Italian model of all time. Holy epic! In addition, she has won numerous acting awards and has featured in quite a few short films.
Scary scary quite contrary.
4. Scumbag Steve aka white dude that is a douche
I personally haven't seen this one circulated quite as much, but I have seen it. This white dude just so happened to be rolling in the perfect attire, puffy white coat, cocked flat bill hat, and on point expression- all to become the symbol of douchiness everywhere.
Lucky for him though, he is actually an sedulous individual. The image derives from an album cover of a rap group called 'Beantown Mafia.' The man's name is Blake Boston and it's known that the photo was taken of him when he was 16 by- you guessed it, his very own mama.
He is now a father, and continues to laugh about the meme. He even has a Twitter account with over 6k followers. Oh! And his beard as finally filled out nicely as well.
5. Grumpy Cat I don't know a soul alive that doesn't recognize this cat.
This funny feline was more of a sensation at the beginning of the decade than at the end, the Grumpy Cat was one of the most famous kitties to ever exist. She redefined societies epic love for all things cats in a post Egyptian era. Unfortunately, she passed away this year, but this fuzzball stayed diligently grump until the bitter end.
6. Side eye Chloe the blonde child of mere disgust
This still totally relevant meme is of a family's younger daughter Chloe reacting to the news of a Disney trip while her older sister wept with joy. Now at age 8, Chloe is living the good life of eminent meme-dom. She travels the world and of course has her own instagram account with over 500k followers. Where she has photo proof that she does in fact love trips to Disney's magical land.
7. Confuzzled calculous lady
This confuzzled math lady who is also dubbed the 'Math Lady' is actually a Brazilian actress by the name of Renata Sorrah. The meme was originally culled by the 2004 telenovela Senhora do Destino. When we live in an ever vast confusing world, thanks to computers- I think the great majority is bad at math, (if you're a scholar at math seriously, hella hand claps to you!) this meme speaks so loud. Today she is 72 years old and still acts on the regular on TV, her most recent work is in the 2018 series 'A Second Chance.'
Emergerhd
8. Ermahgerd....HAHA ironic this one is right after? Clearly priceless content.
The Emergerhd gal became a sensation in 2012 after a Reddit thread. Then, Maggie Goldenberger was only 11 years old, in the middle of doing her best nerd impression. Thankfully for us- many didn't know she was dressed as a joke, thus became a meme. She described her rise to fame as "f*cking weird" in which I have no doubt. She is now 30 years old, and is a nurse and has no issues laughing at the meme that made her peculiarly famous.
9. Conceited reaction mehhhhhh!
This screen capture came from a 2013 video of a rap battle between Jesse James and Conceited, who is the star of the meme and lent it his name. Conceited has worked with Nick Cannon (who has recently attempted rapper suicide via Eminem.) and is an accomplished battle rapper.
Immortality meme style
10. Ridiculously photogenic bro dude
Too often people are captured during their most UNphotogenic moments, however Zeddie Little is quite the opposite. Deemed the 'Ridiculously Photogenic Guy' appears unwavering while running A DAMN MARATHON! Per instagram check, Little has continued running and even partook in the 2017 New York City marathon and is alive and well.
Some things never change.
