Lizard Looks Exactly Like A Leaf And It Is Super Creepy
Australia gets a reputation for creepy wildlife, but Madagascar has its own contender for the title. This gecko does not just blend in, it practically disappears into the leaves around it.
The satanic leaf-tailed gecko is famous for looking almost exactly like a dead leaf, right down to the ridges, tail shape, and camouflaged coloring. That kind of disguise makes sense in a rainforest full of predators, but it also makes the lizard look unsettlingly unreal.
And once you notice the red tongue and eerie name, it gets even harder to look away.
The satanic leaf-tailed gecko is a species of gecko found in Madagascar.

And, yep, it looks EXACTLY like a leaf.

It is one of those animals that looks almost too strange to be real.
In the rainforests where they are found, there are a whole bunch of predators, so the geckos really need to camouflage themselves with their surroundings.

Their skin has ridges on it to make it look like there are veins—just like on leaves. Their tails are even leaf-shaped, too.

That name only makes the whole thing feel a little more unsettling.

But as for the satanic name? It might come from its creepy red tongue or even the fact that it can let out a scream to scare off predators!

Either way, this gecko is impossible to forget.
