Wild Cat News: Elderly Lion Couple Were Put To Sleep At The Same Time So They Don't Have To Live Without The Other
Think of your most beloved cat and the bond and personality that cat brought to your life. Now imagine wild cats like lions and how, for all their differences, we always tend to say, "a cat is a cat is a cat!"
Thinking of our own cats, as well as large wild cats, makes this heartbreaking yet beautiful story about the death of large cats all the sadder. Zoos are often very controversial businesses, as some people do not agree with keeping wild animals like lions in captivity.
However, when you read beautiful conservation stories like these, it makes you realize they are not all bad. Animals in zoos (and their natural environments) often end up incredibly bonded to their companions.
Just like our house cats, wild animals love company, and they sometimes develop very special relationships. This is what happened to this beautiful lion couple, Hubert and Kalisa.
But once they got older and their health declined, the L.A. Zoo opted to humanely euthanize the pair so that they wouldn’t have to live without their best friend.
LA Zoo took to Facebook to share some devastating news about their beloved lion couple

CEO & Zoo Director Denise Verret said:
“These affectionate companions came to the L.A. Zoo six years ago, and they quickly charmed their way into our hearts as we observed their magnificent beauty and unique bond. It was often said that you don’t see Kalisa without Hubert being close by. So, while it is truly heart-wrenching that we had to say goodbye to this iconic pair, we can take comfort in knowing they left together. These lions will remain a positive part of our history, and they will be greatly missed.”
