Kindness—free at a cost but such an underrated thing in this world. Sometimes, people even take for granted the power that their words have to other people, and more often than not, spoken words hurt a lot more than physical wounds because the emotional dent it caused will always be there.
Getting hurt physically is one thing, but the scars left behind by some people who tortured you with hurtful words will probably haunt you for the rest of your life, whether or not you made amends with that said person. The pain, the memory, and the mark will always be there, no matter where we go.
That can be one of some people's limiting beliefs, and those words may have caused them to shrink so small enough that they can never believe in themselves anymore. No matter how close you are to that one person who has slain your heart in just a single word or sentence, the effect will always remain the same because that's just how cruelly powerful words are to the human mind and heart.
That is why, it is always important to be kind to others, because we may never know what kind of internal struggles they are facing, and we should always promote saying words out of kindness and not out of cruelty. A certain Tiktoker has a testament to that, in which she shared a story of a moment that really left an emotional mark in her heart—she has carried the hurtful words her teacher said to her since she was 11 years old.
Her name is Elyse Myers.
elyse_myersElyse Myers has over 3.5 million followers on Tiktok, and she is known for telling stories about her life that aims to teach everyone a lesson or two. Her videos usually go viral and has been watched millions of times.
One of her more recent videos was her spreading the message of the importance of being kind, and being careful with your words before you say them to someone because it can have a life-long damage.
elysemyersShe starts it off by narrating that she was bigger than other kids her age when she was just a teenager. That didn't bother her for the most part, but everyone else wanted her to know that they thought her weight was unusual for her age.
Looking back, Elyse begins to ponder on how bothering it actually was that there were so many qualities she had that other people could have praised, but the only thing that they saw was her body.
People were drawn to make comments about her appearance, but not her as a person.
Elyse was comfortable with her body, but other people weren't.
Truth!
elysemyersIt's cruel how people always liked to remind her that there was something wrong with her body, even as a child. While it's easy to brush off these comments, it can still awfully hurt especially when you are trying to be more comfortable and confident with who you are.
It's also a heartbreaking thing to hear those unnecessary discrimination and comments from a person that you look up to, or from an important authority.
This substitute teacher walked up to her and straight up said this.
elysemyersShe was just expressing her dreams.
elysemyersWhile we may not like all of our teachers, the things they say still matter because as children, we kind of looked up to them. And when they make hurtful comments, they linger.
Even if it was already 17 years ago, Elyse still remembers everything and how it hurt. She recalls him saying that he she was not suited for a cheerleading uniform.
Met him for one hour for a life-long emotional damage.
People, young and old, should take note of this.
elysemyersThe teacher may have believed that he has the best intentions for Elyse, but it was absolutely disgusting and inappropriate to say to a child. He left a scar in Elyse's heart and 17 years later, the pain is still there and she is still trying to fix it up so that it would not affect her life.
Now she asks people to be more careful with their words, and be kind, especially to kids.
elysemyersDespite all that, Elyse was able to fulfill her dream of becoming a cheerleader for the musical Grease when she was in high school!
elysemyersTake a look at what people have to say:
Have you?
Kind of creepy.
The duality.
Indeed!
Makes you think back.
Be kind, even to yourself.
Down with the passive-aggressive comments.
We need more kindness in the world.
Words can be so discouraging, so it is always important to never say mean things to anyone because as much as you would regret it later on, the overall effect will be harder for them. Kindness is free so spread it!
