22-Year-Old Man Leaves Family Gathering After Being Told He Can't Sit At The Adults' Table Until He Has Kids

You reach a certain age when suddenly the level of responsibilities you carry becomes more. And so does the respect from the family who’ve watched you grow up.

The kids' table that you were subjected to then becomes too small, and it’s time to sit with the adults. There’s this opportunity to finally be seen as one of them, someone that deserves the same recognition.

But in the case of a Redditor who posted on r/AITA at the age of 22, they still see him as a kid. It was when OP went to a family get-together in a park, attending with quiche and cups.

After talking and fun activities, when it was time to sit down, OP’s aunt and the rest of the other ‘adults’ explained to him why he should be at the kids’ table. He then questioned their perspective when he was clearly an adult.

They answered that despite his reasons, only the 1st and 2nd generations are considered adults. Their final reason was that they would let him sit at the adults' table if he had kids.

He couldn’t accept it and decided to leave, bringing his quiche with him. OP received texts after telling him to come back and apologize.

He disregarded them, as well as the calls, but he felt guilty that he might’ve ruined their family event. This doesn’t change his feelings of not being treated fairly by the family members.

They’ll easily find out that OP is not obligated to do anything if he’s treated as a kid, that includes contributing to the get-together

There’s a possibility that OP did sour the mood at the family get-together after leaving with his quiche. Redditors still justified that in this situation, he is NTA.

It was after agreeing that they didn’t treat him with the respect that he deserves. They came up with multiple suggestions instead of how to proceed forward, albeit some suggestions might be petty, OP had read them and provided an edit to thank them.
