Kelly Rowland Defended Chris Brown At The AMA's And People Aren't Happy

It's no secret to any of us that Chris Brown has a troubled past. And things really hit the fan for the singer in 2009 when he violently assaulted his then-girlfriend, Rihanna.

Even though Brown's career has bounced back somewhat since the highly publicized legal battle that ensued after the assault, it's clear that many (former) fans still haven't forgiven him. Brown has a long and sordid history of violent behavior, which has damaged his reputation irreparably.

So, when Brown won Favorite Male R&B Artist at the American Music Awards recently, it didn't come as a huge surprise that some people in the crowd were not pleased. As Kelly Rowland declared Chris the winner, many unimpressed people in the audience started to boo.

But Rowland wasn't going to stand for it! She immediately came to Brown's defense and demanded that the crowd "chill out."

The singer went on to say, “I wanted to tell Chris, thank you so much for making great R&B music and I want to tell him, thank you for being an incredible performer.” People were not at all happy about Kelly's support for Chris.

But Kelly isn't Chris' only celebrity fan. He has had many defenders over the years, and just last year, Lizzo approached him backstage to ask for a photo and described him as her "favorite person." Keep scrolling to find out how people reacted to Kelly's AMA's presentation.

What are your thoughts on Kelly Rowland's support for Chris Brown? Is the past in the past, or should Chris still be paying for his former bad behavior?

Violence is never okay, but let's be honest; the fact that Chris's victim is one of the most beloved pop stars of our time really doesn't help his case either. Rihanna has a massive fan base, and they are not going to be quick to forgive the way Chris treated her, so the R&B singer has some hard work ahead of him if he truly wants to redeem himself.

As always, we would love to hear your opinions on this. You can share your thoughts with us in the comment section.
