Julia Roberts' rise to stardom happened with Pretty Woman. She was 23 years old at the time.

Eventually, she became a leading lady that commanded more money than her peers in Hollywood. The Smyrna, Georgia native is considered among the caliber of Costner, Gibson, and Schwarzenegger by American film executive and producer, Joe Roth.

According to one of her previous agents, she receives every script from shows in the business. He also adds that if there are only 10 people who could guarantee a movie's success, she'd no doubt be included and the only woman on that list.

Even 30 years after her initial success, you cannot deny that she is among the most famous Hollywood celebs in the entire world. She became a showstopper with her surprise appearance at the Oscars in 2019, where she presented the Academy Award for Best Picture.

This came after she played a caseworker in the TV series, Homecoming, and the mother of the titular character in the drama film Ben is Back. It was a romantic comedy movie that skyrocketed her career.

So you can't help but wonder why she hasn't been starring in films in this genre. She has an upcoming movie, Ticket to Paradise, where she reunites with George Clooney.

The star recently had an interview with The New York Times and she revealed by she hasn't been starring in romcom films until now.

Ticket to Paradise, her new film with George Clooney, will be her first romantic comedy in 20 years. Her last was America's Sweethearts in 2001.

In her very recent interview, she revealed why she hasn't been starring in romcom films.

People sometimes misconstrue the amount of time that’s gone by that I haven’t done a romantic comedy as my not wanting to do one.

According to the renowned actress, she wanted to do something that's at the level of madcap fun of Notting Hill level of writing or My Best Friend’s Wedding.

She's had kids the last 18 years, so that sets the bar higher.

For Roberts, it's not just about the material being good.

As they get older, and particularly with my daughter, I do have a sense of responsibility for showing my children that I can be creative and that it’s meaningful to me — so meaningful that for periods of time I will choose to focus on that almost more than my family, which has been hard for me to come to terms with.

When Ticket to Paradise hits theaters in October 2022, we'll finally know how her return to the romcom movie scene turned out.

In Ticket to Paradise, Roberts and Clooney play as a divorced couple.

They decide to work together to keep their daughter, who decided to marry a local in Bali, from making the same mistake they both did in the past.
