Fed-Up Homeowner Hosts A Neighborhood Barbecue, Publicly Announces That "Fascists" Homeowners Association And Their Go-to Snitch Are Not Welcome
"First time I've seen the term HOA, and my first guess of what it stood for was 'Hall Of As*holes'."

In their neighborhood of 120 houses, a Reddit OP is one of the ten who refused to join the homeowners association (HOA). The previous property owners were wise enough not to join the HOA, and OP was only too glad to keep it that way.
The lack of oversight gave OP the freedom to build on their property. They have a pool where they occasionally host neighborhood barbecue parties.
If OP joined the HOA, they would have been subjected to strict guidelines like their other neighbors who got hefty fines for using the wrong color of curtains. OP has nothing good to say about their local HOA.
One of the association's staunch defenders was Jessica. OP and Jessica are not friends, and after what happened during OP's recent barbecue, they never will be.
Jessica's favorite pastime is to snitch to the HOA. She roams their community and takes photos of all the petty violations she can find to shame the rule-breaking homeowners on Next Door.
The last straw was when Jessica reported Mrs. Jenson, an 85-year-old woman with medical issues, for not keeping a perfectly manicured lawn. The HOA ruthlessly fined the old lady $500.
OP figured it was time to draw the line with the neighborhood snitch. Days before OP's neighborhood barbecue, they posted an invite on Next Door.
OP stated that Jessica and the "suburban fascists on the HOA" were not welcome at the neighborhood barbecue

Jessica ranted that she was an angel who was only doing her duty to protect their neighborhood

OP replied that, on the contrary, Jessica was a "low-life scumbag busbody" with nothing better to do.

Some people accused OP of bullying Jessica. Four of her friends vowed to boycott OP's party and planned to have a barbecue on their own. OP and their non-fascist neighbors had a great time. No one showed up to Jessica's party which made her cry.

Angel Jessical probably believes she is also doing the Lord's work

Having a lawn with grass a few inches too long shouldn't mean $500 less in your bank account

Any neighborly person would have offered to mow Mrs. Jenson's lawn for her, but Jessica's angelic duties don't seem to cover that

HOA's like the one in OP's neighborhood deserve to have a new meaning to their acronym

See, some HOAs are actually helpful and useful to the neighborhood they are responsible for

Some really just salivate at the idea of having some power and then abuse it as much as they can

I bet the HOA and Jessica will try their hardest to limit block parties if OP ever adapts this brilliant idea

Some people did side eye OP for using harsh language agianst Jessica and their HOA

What OP did was definitely humiliating

They publicly called out Jessica and the HOA for their parasitic practices which isn't really far from what Jessica was doing on Next Door

OP did behave like an a**hole deliberately, but according to many Redditors who agreed with them, it was justified

OP was voted not the a**hole, but truly, they were a justified a-hole. OP wanted to teach Jessica the true meaning of "neighborly" and "angel."
It will take a long time before Jessica forgets what OP did. It must be terrible that she can't cash in any favors from the HOA because they have no power over OP.
