"His journey has been nothing short of amazing.”
We all love pet rescue stories with a happy endings. And Hodge the cat is the main protagonist in one of the best rescue stories ever.
Not only has he left the difficult life on the streets, but he has his own medieval palace to rule now. Well, it’s not exactly a palace, it is a Southwark Cathedral on the banks of the River Thames in London, but it doesn’t stop Hodge from acting like royalty.
The main structure of the cathedral was built between 1200 A.D. and 1420. It’s truly a treasure trove of medieval art. Visitors who attend masses and marvel at the beautiful works of art are all greeted by a black-and-white cat who has become a tourist attraction.
It’s a wonderful twist of fate for a cat that was off to a rough start. On her way to work, one woman noticed the black-and-white cat who “looked really poorly” in the summer of 2020 in Woolwich, Southeast London.
As she approached it, she saw it had problems with the lower jaw. But as kids ran towards the feline, it escaped in fear.
Fortunately, Cat Cuddles Sanctuary rescued the cat, and he was on his way to a new life.
“Just like Doorkins before him, a stray who was ushered into the Cathedral on a cold day, Hodge’s story has resonated with many,” Cat Cuddles wrote.
“It’s a testament to the power of acts of kindness to transform our lives in wonderful and unprecedented ways, and to inspire others into similar acts themselves. Happy rescue anniversary Hodge — long may you reign in Southwark.”
Hodge has found a wonderful home where he can roam freely, explore and cuddle with visitors. He has thousands of fans around the world who come just to meet him.
It is a wonderful pet rescue story. But it is not a fairytale. No, it is completely real. So, what’s stopping you from creating a pet rescue story of your own?
