Rescue Cat Named Hodge Went From Drifter to King Living in a Historic Cathedral, Thanks to Kind People
We all love pet rescue stories with happy endings. Hodge the cat is the main protagonist in one of the best rescue stories ever.
Not only has he left behind a difficult life on the streets, but he now has his own medieval palace to rule. Well, it’s not exactly a palace; it is Southwark Cathedral on the banks of the River Thames in London, but that doesn’t stop Hodge from acting like royalty.
The main structure of the cathedral was built between 1200 A.D. and 1420. It’s truly a treasure trove of medieval art. Visitors who attend masses and marvel at the beautiful works of art are all greeted by a black-and-white cat who has become a tourist attraction.
It’s a wonderful twist of fate for a cat that started off with a rough beginning. On her way to work, one woman noticed the black-and-white cat who “looked really poorly” in the summer of 2020 in Woolwich, Southeast London.
As she approached, she saw that it had problems with its lower jaw. But as children ran toward the feline, it escaped in fear.
Fortunately, Cat Cuddles Sanctuary rescued the cat, and he was on his way to a new life.
This is Hodge

He lives here

The Southwark Cathedral as seen from London Bridge

Hodge is keeping an eye on things here:

He makes sure everything is running smoothly...

He was found on the street. He had problems with his lower jaw and lip...

He is a successor to Doorkins the Magnificat, who passed away in September 2020.

She resided in the cathedral for more than a decade

And was missed dearly.

The cathedral clergy was searching for a very special cat indeed to fill the void she left behind.
“Just like Doorkins before him, a stray who was ushered into the Cathedral on a cold day, Hodge’s story has resonated with many,” Cat Cuddles wrote.
“It’s a testament to the power of acts of kindness to transform our lives in wonderful and unprecedented ways, and to inspire others into similar acts themselves. Happy rescue anniversary, Hodge — long may you reign in Southwark.”
And then came Hodge

He loves cuddles and photobombs...

And checking out interesting things...

Here is Hodge, overseeing his domain...

And staring at the wall, apparently. (But who are we to question his actions?)

Even Hodge needs to rest from time to time.

Hodge has his own Twitter account.

People can watch his escapades...

He even has animal followers.

Hodge is a true celebrity.

Watch and pray.

He offers consolation to people in need.

And makes them happy.
He even has a line of merchandise...

We hope Hodge will be here for many years to come.

Hodge has found a wonderful home where he can roam freely, explore, and cuddle with visitors. He has thousands of fans around the world who come just to meet him.
It is a wonderful pet rescue story. But it is not a fairytale. No, it is completely real. So, what’s stopping you from creating a pet rescue story of your own?
