Dog's Second Chance At Life Is Inspirational As Heck
His past may be sad but his present and future are the things dreams are made of.

One of the many wonderful things dogs are notorious for is their zest for life and forgiving nature. Most of us have come across a dog in our lifetime who had been through abuse or neglect (or worse, both,) and if there's one thing most of us notice about those dogs with sordid histories it's that a dog's capacity to love is unparalleled.
Cork the dog is just such a case because as a dog who had been horrifically abused before his rescue, it's nothing but admirable that he puts out such a happy disposition today. Indeed, the sweet dog is a chipper, joyful pup today but it was a long climb up.
By all current appearances, Corks is a healthy, happy goldendoodle.

When he was found abandoned as a stray dog, the injuries observed by veterinarians suggested he had probably been dragged behind a moving vehicle. The poor dog was bandaged up and placed in a shelter, with not much hope to join the emotionally and physically scarred pooch.
Dogs Without BordersCork's traumatic experiences left him wary of people and he was deemed "unadoptable."
At that point, it seemed that Corks' days were dwindling. That is, of course, until Dogs Without Borders intervened.
A representative from the rescue organization wrote, "[He was] about to be put down at the shelter. He had lost so much trust in humans."
Dogs Without BordersIn time, just a few months, it became clear that Corks would benefit from being placed in a foster home.
That's where Brook Wilson comes in: she heard Corks' story and volunteered to foster the dog. She realized quickly that poor Corks simply wasn't accustomed to kindness.
In an interview with The Dodo, she said:
“In the first week, he growled at me, my roommates and most people he met. He was slow to trust.”
herro_mr_cutieBrook got to "work," showing the dog kindness and affection as frequently as humanely possible.
Doting on the sad dog, it wasn't too long before Corks began to open up a little bit. Corks got used to cuddles and was able to be introduced to both other dogs and other humans thanks to her tireless and sincere efforts to transform his heart and heal his inner wounds.
herro_mr_cutieWilson explained:
“As time has gone on, he’s grown to trust people more and more. Initially unwilling to let a single person touch him, he now loves to spoon and greets me with kisses all over the face.”
herro_mr_cutieOriginally, Wilson only intended to foster Corks but the bond between human and dog bond was too significant and they had grown far too attached to each other.
Brook explained why she decided to give him a forever home with her:
“It was clear to me that I wanted nothing more than to make him happy for the rest of his life,”
herro_mr_cutieAt one point, Corks was so broken inside that he was set to be euthanized.
Today, Corks has an energy of pure joy. He is a delight and a star wherever he goes.
“He’s a total goofball and very much a sweetheart,” Wilson told The Dodo. “He amazes me every day.”
herro_mr_cutieCorks and his happiness is at home with Brook and his painful history is nothing more than a distant memory.
herro_mr_cutieAs Dogs Without Borders put it:
"THANK YOU to his amazing new owners for giving him the chance he needed and showing him how to love again.
THIS is why we do what we do. PLEASE give the special ones a chance. This boy was a snarling little dude at first and now is a total love muffin. Helping them heal (inside and out) is so incredibly rewarding. They just need that chance."
herro_mr_cutieAnd Brook? She couldn't be more appreciative for the work the rescue organization does.
On Corks' celebratory Facebook post she said:
"ITS SO WORTH IT! Thank you Dogs Without Borders for saving this baby, and nursing this love of mine to health in addition to everyone who donated and participated in his recovery! This organization really does save lives, as does every dollar generously contributed to their efforts."
herro_mr_cutieBrook also told The Dodo:
“Getting an abused dog to trust you can be challenging, but love and patience can truly work miracles.”
