Calista Flockhart Applauds Harrison Ford As Father, Says He's Good Dad In Lot Of Ways

Ford believes that if his career hadn't been so successful, he would have had more time for parenting.

American actor Harrison Ford, in a 2023 interview, opened up about the significant influence his thriving Hollywood career has had on his role as a father. Ford candidly admitted to certain missteps in his approach to parenting, acknowledging that his level of success may have hindered his ability to be a more effective parent.

Reflecting on his experiences, Ford, who's now 81, expressed a sentiment of introspection, acknowledging that had his career been less illustrious, his parenting might have been more enriched. But despite what he said in the interview, his wife, Calista Flockhart, believes he's actually a pretty solid dad after all these years of experience being one.

I think he was a really good father in a lot of ways, and maybe because he was on Round 2 or Round 3, so he had matured and grown up and, I think, evolved into being a good father. He’s such a good father to his kids now. I love his kids, my stepkids.

Fifty-nine-year-old Flockhart shares in an interview while talking about their son Liam, who's now 23.

At the 2002 Golden Globes, when Harrison Ford and Flockhart first crossed paths, he was in the middle of dealing with a divorce. The Ally McBeal star, on the other hand, had just adopted Liam.

Ford mentioned that meeting Flockhart, who was a new mom at the time, didn't scare him off.

When I met Liam, he was just beginning to walk, and it just didn’t matter to me. I had four children already, and I can’t count that well, so it didn’t make that much difference.

The Star Wars actor has a family tree full of love.

He shares sons Ben, aged 56, and William, aged 54, with his ex-wife Mary Marquardt. They were married from 1964 to 1979.

Ford also has children with the late American television screenwriter Melissa Mathison, whom he was married to from 1983 to 2004. They had a daughter, Georgia, aged 33, and a son, Malcolm, aged 36.

Sadly, Mathison passed away from neuroendocrine cancer in 2015 at the age of 65. His love story continues: he officially adopted Liam in 2010 after he and Flockhart tied the knot.

As Ford remained active in the movie industry during their 22-year relationship, Flockhart opted to prioritize her role as a mother. Following the conclusion of Brothers & Sisters after five seasons in 2011, the actress predominantly took on supporting roles in shows such as Web Therapy and Supergirl.

She expressed contentment with being a full-time mom, highlighting that staying home likely contributed to the strength of her marriage to Ford. She comments on their 14-year marriage.

We’ve had our ups, we’ve had downs like everybody else — mostly ups, which is good — and we just stay together. He’s the person that I want to call when something happens. That knee-jerk thing where I have to call Harrison.

Now that her son has graduated and is all grown up, she has made a comeback. She plays Lee Radziwill in the much-anticipated FX mini-series, "Feud: Capote vs. The Swans."
