There's something so tragic and sad about growing up poor, that even if you have already found your way into stability in your adult life, a part of you that dwelled in poverty as a child will always stay with you. While some people may think or say that growing up poor has made them a lot more appreciative of the little things in life, it's no joke living in a place or a family that does not have the privilege to eat three times a day.
People who already grew up with enough money to sustain themselves for the rest of their lives will truly never understand what it means to be poor—and that no amount of empowerment, programs, or initiatives will be able to truly help these people have a chance to live a stable life unless they work and hustle hard for their future. But it ain't that easy together, being a poor person with big dreams is a gamble, and not everyone is fortunate enough to afford taking risks because once they stumble back, it will be difficult to stand up once again.
When a user posted on the subreddit r/AskReddit the question: "Redditors who grew up poor, what is something that 'rich kids' will never understand?", the people of Reddit delivered. While these answers are nostalgic to look back into, you can't deny that there is still that sadness dwelling in their hearts because they grew up poor as a child.

Reddit6. This is heartbreaking.

Reddit17. Gifts that are actually just necessities.
Reddit18. Laundry is already a luxury.
Reddit19. Some of them won't understand that repeating clothes is a normal thing.

Reddit21. If you know, you know.
Reddit22. Also learning how to fix things than just buy a new one.
Reddit23. This kind of thrifting.
Reddit24. Had to make stuff up just so you won't feel left out.
Reddit25. The strictness that comes along with it.
Reddit26. And not being able to do anything about it as well. It's a cycle.

RedditNothing wrong with being not able to relate to this if you grew up with financial security, but it's sad how some people are truly so out of touch with these things. Some people would say that they should just work hard, but even if they work hard, being poor and in debt will just make you stuck.
