Although some teenage girls make the mistake of getting pregnant at an early age, parents need to accept the reality. Instead of judging their child and shaming them for their actions, parents need to provide support and resources.
Having a child in one's teenage years may be extra challenging, but that doesn't mean that a teenage mom can't have success in life. So the parents of teenage moms shouldn't give up on their daughters or discourage them from pursuing their dreams.
When parents support their daughters' educational aspirations, they can help break the cycle of limited opportunities often associated with teenage pregnancy. So if you're a mother or father of a teenage mom, do not be like the horrible and judgmental grandmother in today's story.
A woman asked the people of the "Am I The A**hole?" (AITA) subreddit about her mother's overreaction during her wedding and attitude toward her son. The original poster's (OP's) mom has been blaming the child for ruining her life.
She feels that the kid took her future away from her and didn't consider the OP's hairdressing career as a profession. During their wedding, the OP suddenly heard her mom screaming at her seven-year-old son.
The couple made the seething old lady leave. Later, they saw the mom ranting on Facebook about the whole affair.
After what happened at the wedding, the OP wants to go NC on her mom.
RedditShe was a single, teenage mom who gave birth to a boy who she loves dearly.
But her mom thinks that the kid being born was a mistake. She hated the child so much that she screamed at the boy during the OP's wedding.
RedditWhen the OP explained her side, she discovered that her mom lied to the family. Sadly, not all her relatives believed the OP's side of the story.
Update!!
took the advice I’ve been given and I did tell my family about what truly took place at my wedding, apparently, my mother had told them a completely different story! She stated, that my son was throwing a fit and all she had done was ask him to calm down, and that I lost it on her for disciplining my out of control son while I couldn’t.
Brandon and I are doing our best to explain to my family what really happened, it was a small wedding so not many people were there, about 50 max, so the people who were are also trying to explain what took place.
However much of my mothers side of family other than one aunt and a few cousins won’t believe me. I am choosing to go LC or NC with them, as for my mother I will still remain nc, she has tried to reach out and call me selfish but I have not sent a response.
A Redditor wrote the incident as a post that the OP can just copy and paste on social media.
This might help clean up the misunderstandings with her other relatives.
RedditThe users believe that the suggested social media post is the best way to explain her side.
RedditThe family needs to know how her son was treated by the OP's mother.
RedditThis grandma is being unfair to her grandson. It was never his fault.
RedditThe seven-year-old doesn't deserve such a treatment from her grandmother.
RedditThere's no need to apologize. The OP only needs to go NC.
RedditThe OP doesn't need a toxic mother in her life.
RedditIf anyone should apologize, it should be the OP's mom. On top of ruining her wedding she scarred the poor little child.
RedditSince the grandma has so much hate for her grandson, it might be best for the OP to remove her from her family's life completely. The toxicity and negativity of the OP's mom could affect her son's well-being.
She then needs to explain that the decision to cut ties doesn't come from the lack of forgiveness. The OP simply needs to maintain a healthy emotional environment, and this can be achieved by cutting off the toxic person from her family's lives.
