Gordon Ramsay's Wife Shares Surprising Truth Behind His Absence At Births Of Their First Four Kids

Childbirth is often considered one of life’s most intimate and shared experiences, with many expecting the presence of both parents in the delivery room. However, for celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay and his wife, Tana Ramsay, this wasn’t the case for the births of their children.

In a surprising revelation on the "Happy Mum, Happy Baby" podcast hosted by Giovanna Fletcher, Tana, 50, opened up about why her husband, Gordon, 57, was absent during those significant moments.

Contrary to what some might think, his absence wasn't due to his demanding TV schedule or being away on international duties. Instead, the couple made a deliberate decision.

Tana explained that their choice was rooted in personal comfort and preference. She shared her experiences of undergoing IVF, grappling with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), and dealing with the complex emotions tied to pregnancy and childbirth.

Tana also touched on the heartbreaking loss of their son Rocky, who passed away shortly after birth in 2016, making it difficult for her to embrace the title of "mother-of-six."

While Gordon was not present for the births of their older children, Megan (26), Jack (24), Holly (24), and Tilly (22), he was by Tana's side for the births of Oscar (5) and nine-month-old Jesse.

Tana revealed that this change was due to complications she faced in the past, showing the couple's evolving approach to the growing needs of their family.

During the interview, Tana and Giovanna discussed the reasoning behind Gordon's absence, with Tana explaining: "It is very controversial, but it just felt right."

She humorously added that her husband might have been more of a distraction than a help;

'He probably would have gone all squeamish and fainted and I would’ve been like, 'Sorry, this is my moment.'

Reflecting on the decision years later, Tana shared that it 'never really bothered' her, saying:

'I actually felt quite happy when we talked about it, I said, ‘Listen, if you don’t want to be in there then don’t.'

So, If Gordon wasn't in the delivery room with his partner, who was there to provide emotional support?

For the first four births, Tana's mother served as her birthing partner. However, this changed during the births of their younger children, with Gordon opting for a more involved role.

Reflecting on Gordon's presence during the births, Tana shared;

'I think he wanted to be there, and I thought it was nice. I think it was after what we went through with losing Rocky, our little boy.'

The traumatic loss occurred when she was just 19 weeks pregnant, having already experienced bleeding at nine weeks.

Tana recalled;

'Gordon looked at me and said, 'I'm not going anywhere. I’m staying in for this.'

Despite enduring several miscarriages, Tana successfully gave birth to sons Oscar and Jesse, both conceived through IVF, just like their late brother Rocky.

Gordon Ramsay might be a tough critic in the kitchen, but it seems he took a backseat when it came to the delivery room – at least initially. Tana’s candid explanation highlights the unique choices couples make to navigate parenthood.

From mastering the art of Michelin-star cuisine to learning when to step in or step back, the Ramsays have certainly cooked up their own recipe for family life. Whether in the heat of Hell’s Kitchen or the heart of a maternity ward, it’s clear that they’re always focused on what’s best for their growing brood.
