A Petty Woman Missed Her Father-In-Law's Funeral Because Her Grieving Mother-In-Law Didn't Book Her First-Class Ticket
She doesn't get along with her mother-in-law and the ticket was apparently an obvious ploy to make her feel less than

We lean on the people we love when we go through life's most difficult moments. Petty squabbles are forgotten in the face of true grief and we set our differences aside to support each other.
There are always exceptions to this — people who cannot let their grudges go even for a moment. OP's husband thought she would be his most ardent supporter when he heard the news of his father's passing.
Her mother-in-law and OP do not have the greatest relationship. They are civil when needed but they disagree too much to even form a bond.
When her husband's dad suddenly passed away, OP's MIL booked them both a flight to attend his funeral. The issue is, MIL booked a first-class ticket for OP's husband while she got stuck with a coach ticket.
They were already at the airport and OP asked how her MIL thought this was okay. Her husband urged OP to "suck it up" and they will discuss it later.
OP felt humiliated and hated her MIL even more. She felt that even in her grief, she went out of her way to treat OP like she was beneath her.
OP decided that this will be the hill she will die on and told her husband she was going home. He was shocked and tried to convince OP to stay but she followed through with her plan.
He flew to his parents' state to say goodbye to his dad without his wife by his side
u/Sadandexhausted133He called and texted her after the funeral. He said OP was petty and spoiled.
u/Sadandexhausted133OP said her MIL should have just bought two economy tickets if money was an issue
Her husband countered that OP was pathetic for even making a fuss about plane tickets when his dad just died. He called her cruel for what she did and swore that he & his family will never forget the petty reason why she missed her FIL's funeral.
u/Sadandexhausted133OP added that she didn't want to leave her husband alone in first-class because she wanted to sit by him to support him in case he cries again during the flight
u/Sadandexhausted133According to the top comment, not one person in OP's post did the right thing
wickedlucky214OP let her husband grieve by himself over a petty reason and potentially caused an irreparable rift in their marriage
karenna89Someone said OP's husband could have just downgraded and sat with her in coach to show he was on her side
tdotcitygalHowever, his primary reason is not to support his mom or his wife — they were there because his dad just dad and he has to say goodbye
CelloBaeOP was selfish and failed to see that her husband needed her in that moment
bhartman36_2020He probably couldn't think of alternatives because he was too sad over his father dying
lordlivOP chose the smallest pebble to trip on and has hurt her husband beyond measure
AnnieAnnieSheltoeOP thought the edit would make people side with her but it just made her look like a short-sighted liar
sirkseelagoThere's another possibility that OP's MIL didn't buy OP an economy-class ticket out of spite
gogogadgetrageThere is a huge chance that she wasn't even thinking of OP since, again, her husband just died
gogogadgetrageOP is still the biggest a**hole according to this Redditor since she prioritized her grudge with MIL over supporting her husband
MaybeAWalrusIf MIL actually did this out of spite, OP played her game and gave her an ammunition she can remind OP every time they quarrel
klef3069OP should have done what her husband said, "suck it up and talk about it later" because she picked the worst time to make a point
Ok_Surround6561Well, this was an interesting story. OP was so blinded by her grudge against her MIL that at no point in typing up this story to post on Reddit did she realize how badly she f*cked up. I honestly don't know how she can even begin to apologize to her husband after what she did.
