When you're in high school, homecoming and prom are two of the most important events in that stage of your life. It's where you can feel like a superstar all decked out and ready to show them how you can really bloom and shine.
For a lot of people, their dream is to become the prom queen or king. However, with hundreds of kids in the same school, the competition is tough, especially for people who aren't usually considered prom queen or king material.
But well, times are changing. Today, anything can be possible.
A student can influence their school and their schoolmates to change tradition in many ways. One of those students who took that plunge is Zachary Willmore.
Zachary is a cheerleader on his school's varsity team over at Rock Bridge High School, USA. He's also quite active on TikTok where he has over a million followers and where he advocates for changes in the school's dress code.
One day, the influencer put out a poll if he should aim to be his school's homecoming king or queen. And well, we think we know the answer.
“They thought queen could look prettier on the sash,” Willmore explained. “So I chose queen.”

He's also a proud member of the LGBTQ community and identifies himself as gay. His grandparents didn't know about it, however, until the homecoming ceremony this year.
On TikTok, he also advocates for changes in the school's dress code
zacharywillmoreZachary wants to pursue a career as a fashion designer which makes sense given that one of the reasons for his popularity is his unique sense of style.
He has also made it a point to use his popularity on TikTok to advocate for people's right to dress however they want. His popularity on the app soared to new heights, however, after his video of him winning the homecoming queen crown went viral.

However, not everyone was exactly fully supportive. Although Zachary received tons of positivity from his supporters, there were also negative reactions online.
“I feel like winning homecoming queen has created a path for me to go down. Coincidentally the people who were the most upset about it helped get my story get out by watching it so much," he said.
Now, Zachary continues his advocacy for the school to promote a more updated dress code
zacharywillmoreTogether with a few other students, Zachary continues to advocate for a more up-to-date school dress code. He wants to inspire other students and other people in general to dress however they want.
“I want to help people feel comfortable in their own skin with whatever clothing they wear over their skin so I really hope that by wearing a dress, I helped someone else wear what they wanted too," he said.

We hope the school listens to Zachary's advocacy though and hopefully, that's the next step after his amazing win. It's time organizations start getting modernized the right way after all.
