Nana's blue eyes and beautiful white fur might make you want to rescue your own British Shorthair kitty. However, there are some aspects of this breed’s character that you should be aware of before opting to adopt one.

British Shorthairs get along perfectly with other pets; they're very intelligent and calm cats, and they're not known for getting into too much trouble. However, this unique cat breed is known for having some health issues, such as arthritis and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, and they can also develop cysts on their kidneys.

Besides, considering the amount of roaming British Shorthairs do on their own, they don't require too much additional exercise to remain healthy. However, it is important to regularly monitor your cat’s calorie intake, taking into account how laid-back they are.

Apart from that, they have a pretty simple diet, and you can continue feeding them kitten food until they’re around a year old (in some cases, even longer). It's also not recommended to keep switching their food around; it's better to stick to the same food since frequent changes might upset their stomach.

Once they're fully grown, you can start feeding them nutritious food a couple of times a day. Overfeeding them is also not recommended, as it can lead to obesity, which greatly reduces a cat’s quality of life.
