The photographs of these abandoned animals, who were saved and given a lot of affection by their caring owners, show that the phrase still holds true, even if the world has seen significant change over the past 50 or so years. The happy endings to their stories allow us to maintain trust in humanity, even though seeing these unfortunate stray canines in their original form may say volumes about animal mistreatment.

What are you still holding out for? Hug the person sitting next to you, your dog, or your cat, and spread some love!

Of course, wait until you finish scrolling through these incredible before and after photos of lucky rescue dogs. We've created this list with a lot of love and hope it will inspire people to adopt a pet rather than buy one.

Animals are capable of many emotions, and gratitude is one of them. The bond that is created between rescue pets and their rescuers is the most powerful thing in the world.

So, let's dive into the wonderful world of rescue pet transformations. Are you ready?

Do you have your tissues and your "aaaawwws" ready?

1. "Worked at a shelter. Hank was called 'Tank' and wouldn't eat. He tried to escape every kennel (sometimes successfully). I just had to take him home. He's been with me for 10 years now."

According to ASPCA, every year, approximately 6.3 million companion animals are brought into animal shelters in the United States. There are about 3.1 million dogs and 3.2 million cats among them.

Each year, approximately 920,000 shelter animals are euthanized (390,000 dogs and 530,000 cats). That sad statistic shows we all need to put in an effort.
