Girl Asks If She's The A**hole For Spending Weekend With Her Dog Instead Of Her Boyfriend
It was not an easy decision to make.

Sadly, as much as we want them to, dogs don't live as long as humans do. In fact, their lifespans are just a quarter of what most humans' lifetimes are.
That's why a lot of fur parents like to spend as much time as they can with their dogs. They understand that while 10 or 12 years might seem like a long time, it would seem so short when their dog's time is near.
As it is though, not everyone has the luxury of simply spending every minute of their time with their dogs. People also have to work, have social lives, and so much more and while they'd want to involve their dogs in every single one, that can't always be the case.
Sometimes, dog owners even have to make tough decisions and choose one over the other which is the case for Redditor MailedSnail. She had to choose whether to spend the weekend with her boyfriend or her pooch.
She would have wanted them to both be there for the trip she planned, however, her boyfriend is allergic. She doesn't want to leave her dog behind either especially since she isn't able to spend as much time with her dog as it is and now she feels bad for choosing her dog.
Here's the whole story.
OP asks:

The couple was invited to her grandparents home out in the woods and she just wanted to take her dog along

She wanted to spend this time with her pup since she hasn't been spending that much time with her

Sadly, her boyfriend is allergic to dogs

So she decides to go on the trip alone with her dog

These kinds of situations are not easy because as a fur parent, you'd definitely have to choose between the two. And nobody wants to have to make that choice.
But there are times when you just have to, especially for the sake of one party. And of course, there will be someone upset.
Was OP's choice right though?
Many people in the Reddit comments section think so. Some have even suggested various allergy medicine for the boyfriend.
Here are the top comments.
1. It's understandable for any party to get upset by this situation

2. The boyfriend needs to understand just how important her dog is to her

3. Hopefully, they can find a good alternative while the boyfriend's waiting since he is willing to go through the meds and immunotherapy after all

4. This person has made a great sacrifice that many fur parents will definitely adore

Immunotherapy is not a cure

5. It's amazing the things that the human body can adapt to in time and with perseverance but again, natural adaptation is not for everybody

Sometimes you need to push the adaptation a bit...

6. The future needs to be considered as well here

7. That dog is one lucky pooch to have a human this good to them

8. Some people think she should have made her commitment to her dog a lot clearer to her boyfriend

9. Now this is real commitment to the relationship

10. It might be time to start discussing the future a lot more

11. If the dog was there first, then the boyfriend should have known what he was getting into

12. It's something pretty serious to consider for long term

13. That's an important conversation this couple needs to have

14. Some people don't think splitting time like the way she does is going to help the relationship progress

15. Hopefully, even though the boyfriend's upset, he understands

Having a relationship like this isn't an easy one. The fur parent would definitely need to divide her time between the two and there would be times when she'd definitely have to choose.
At least her boyfriend is trying medicine and immunotherapy though. Hopefully, they'll figure out a solution soon so it won't strain their relationship.
