The shelter life is pretty much the only life she's known.

We think dogs ending up in the shelter is a lot better than them wandering around in the streets. At least that way, they still have a chance of finding a home and a family that will take care of them until their old days.
Dog adoption isn't so simple though. Of course, people have preferences and they're looking for a certain pup who will be able to fit into their family and their lifestyle.
People just can't pick out the first dog they see at the shelter, right? They also have to be a match or the dog might just end up going back to the streets or getting returned to the shelter.
Sadly, because of this, a lot of dogs spend months or even years waiting for their forever home. Every day, they wait and wait in their kennels looking at the people passing by hoping that that would be the day that their life changes.
The pup in our story for today named Chance was found when she was just a little pup. A couple found her getting into a scuffle with some other dogs and brought her to the Haven Animal Care Shelter to get her the help she needed for her injuries.
That was seven years ago. Up until today, Chance is still looking for her family.
This adorable pup was taken to the shelter to help with her injuries
Because of her injuries, the shelter had to get her checked up.
“We took her to the vet and had her sutured up,” Dr. Brenda Wilbanks, founder and director of The Haven Animal Care Shelter said. “She has some character to her muzzle as a result.”
Once she gets healed, the shelter hoped that it wouldn't take too long to find Chance her forever home. Sadly, they were wrong.
Seven years have passed and Chance is still at the shelter. She's lived there all her life and has gone from puppyhood to almost her golden years without a loving family to really care for her.
Because of her past, Chance also developed a lot of fear and anxiety. But, she also has a lot of love and joy in her and it's clear how badly she wants to have a family of her own.

Whenever potential adopters come around, Chance often gets overlooked because she's why and nervous around people she doesn't really know. Once she warms up to you though, all she wants to do is cuddle and be loved.
“She’s very shy and afraid,” Wilbanks said. “She runs to the back of her kennel when someone enters. She enjoys walking on a leash but often has to be carried until she gets past the other dogs at the shelter.”
DR. BRENDA WILBANKSShe just needs the right person to understand and care for her
Chance just needs to be given just the right space and time and she'll be able to form incredible bonds with people. It might just be that people don't immediately see that when they first meet her.
What Chance needs more than anything else is for someone to give her a chance.
DR. BRENDA WILBANKSAll she's ever known is the shelter life
Chance has done a good job coping with the shelter life but mostly it's because it's all the life she's ever known. Everyone who knows her is still excited for the day when she'll be able to venture outside, discover the world, and go on amazing adventures with people who love her.
Sadly, for now, she's still waiting.
“[She] seems to do OK,” Wilbanks said. “It’s truly pretty much the only life she’s known.”
DR. BRENDA WILBANKSFor now, she's still waiting for her chance
Chance would do best in a quiet home with no young children since she can get easily overwhelmed. She needs a family or a person to be patient with her as she adjusts to her new life and other than that, all she just needs is love and a chance.
DR. BRENDA WILBANKSIt's heartbreaking to know that this pup has been waiting for 7 years now for her forever home. She's nearing her golden years already and it's obvious that she's such a sweetie.
Hopefully, she finds the right person or family for her soon. Chance also deserves the chance to see the world, experience being loved, and live the best of her life in a loving home.
