According to the ASPCA, there are over 40,000 individuals involved in dog fighting but a poll (also from the ASPCA) suggested that most people believe that dog fighting is never happening in their communities. It's also true that dog fighting is a felony in all 50 states of the United States. and merely attending a dog fight is a misdemeanor in many jurisdictions!
If you're already familiar with Jenny Jinya’s work, then you probably already know that it's definitely not for the faint-hearted. The brilliant artist has over 311k followers on Instagram and she previously released some of the most intense and heartbreaking comic strips ever.
The German artist shows human cruelty against animals and the terrible consequences that come with it. This time, she took plenty of time to release a strip about the atrocities dogs encounter in fighting rings and she even confessed that it was "extremely painful to draw”. 16,000 dogs die every year due the cruelty of dog fighting, even with a $5,000 reward for reporting dog fighting and the criminalization of the horrors, it remains prevalent.
Jenny has been known for raising awareness about cruelty to animals with her powerful comics. She previously resealed some equally touching comics featuring a black cat, a circus elephant, a sea bird, and a circus lion.
When Jenny was asked in an interview with Bored Panda about what led her to draw this particular strip, she stated that she was always bothered by the stigma and discrimination related to pit bulls. But she refused to let those rumors get into her head because she knew how sweet pit bulls really are since she previously had the chance to interact with them.
The German artist was aware of the cruelty and severe injuries pit bulls are forced to endure, but upon further research, she discovered how truly dark it really is.
“I first learned that pit bull puppies are partly stolen from normal households and trained. These animals were hoping for a family full of love and are taken away into a world of violence and loneliness.”
Jenny was deeply touched after discovering this cruel practice and she confessed that the more she learned “about this blood sport, the heavier [her] heart became.” This heartbreaking strip perfectly illustrates Jenny’s heartfelt sorrow.
