There are millions of dog lovers out there. Yet, there aren’t many people who would put themselves in danger to save a dog’s life.

This is why we must always celebrate individuals who strive to ensure the safety of dogs each day. We call them "angels on earth"—their compassion for these adorable creatures embodies the true meaning of "love" in every sense of the word.

From owning pet shelters to funding them and even volunteering in organizations that care for pets, these 'angels' ensure that dogs can have a better life.

According to research, there are over 3500 pet shelters in the US alone. And wherever shelters exist, people will be there to run them—meaning there are more 'angels' around us than we think.

Jack Spencer Furmston, Ben Camphor, and five other brave students are the latest individuals to join the 'host' after they demonstrated incredible bravery to give a stranded dog a second chance at life.

This daring operation wasn't planned, and neither did anyone have time to lay out a waterproof strategy to rescue the dog. But the students happened to be in the right place at the right time.

Thankfully, they relied on their instincts to take charge of the situation before any harm could befall the dog. Scroll down to get a glimpse of the incredible rescue.

Two 20-year-old students, Jack Spencer Furmston and Ben Camphor, spotted something worrying on their way home from a coffee shop in Manchester. Batu Akyol was seen struggling with a lead over a wall, but the boys couldn't tell exactly what was going on from a distance.

On close inspection, they realized that Akyol’s dog, Sumak, had fallen into the Ancoats Canal.

A split-second decision

The two boys, along with five other students, immediately sprung into action to save the dog. Ben decided to take a huge risk—he climbed over the canal wall and reached down to the dog, while the other students held firmly to his legs.

A successful mission

Sumak was visibly scared, but Ben extended his arm and grabbed onto his collar. At this point, the other students pulled hard until Ben and Sumak were safely over the Canal wall.

Ben Camphor later shared that he also owns a dog. And this was no surprise to us, as it's only natural that a dog owner would better understand just how precious a dog's life is.

In an interview with MailOnline, he said, “Everyone was panicking. I couldn’t let that dog down and not help. I’m a dog owner myself, so there wasn’t a chance I was going to leave it on its own.”

The students deserve all the praise and fame they can get. We can't even imagine what would have happened if they weren't around during the incident.

We also can't help giving a special shoutout to Ben, who was brave enough to suspend down into the canal to make the rescue. Not many people would make such a sacrifice for a dog, but this event shows just how compassionate some humans can be.

Luckily for Sumak, he got to go home safe and sound. And we're pretty sure he won't forget the sacrifice these students made for him.
