The day unfolded like any other of our narrator's (Original Poster’s) monthly errand days—a finely tuned routine that is usually planned to a T.
The day's checklist included the regular pit stops: a visit to Walgreens for prescription pickups and a short break at Starbucks.
OP’s four-legged co-pilot accompanied them during this ritual. She was rewarded with a pup cup and some yummy snacks for being an excellent furry companion all day.
The day flowed seamlessly until a gas station stop derailed everything. OP Initially planned to utilize the convenient pay-at-the-pump option, but the card reader was down.
In a momentary lapse, the option to switch pumps didn't occur to OP. They decided to head inside for a pre-pay maneuver instead.
Now, it’s noteworthy that OP’s dog was a rescue dog who suffered from separation anxiety. She was known for her dramatic high-pitch cries during moments of separation, no matter how brief.
OP did a quick math and figured they could make it out in five minute, tops. They hurried through the purchase while their dog’s unmistakable cries were echoing throughout the gas station.
OP returned to their car only to be confronted with a disturbing sight. Apparently, a strange woman standing mere inches away was recording their distressed dog!
As soon as she saw OP, she flipped the camera on them and accused them of neglecting the dog for fifteen minutes. In reality, it had only been three minutes, but this woman didn’t care.
She vowed to broadcast the incident on TikTok and tagged OP a terrible pet owner before walking away.
Shortly after the incident, OP pondered if they made the right decision to leave the dog behind, knowing fully well that it has separation anxiety.
