We don't have a lot of details about the big project because it's still so early but we do know that Disney is re-making Lilo and Stitch as a live-action/CGI combination and we could not be more stoked. The 2002 animated film is basically a household classic and definitely one of Disney's most beloved movies.
The original movie may have not been a "huge success" by box office standards but it is clear that is a favorite of fans young and old. I mean, it's basically on repeat at our house! Just browsing the Internet you'll quickly find that Stitch memorabilia has stayed in very high demand, some of the most popular fan art is from Lilo and Stitch, and all the memes suggest people are still resonating deeply with the messages of family and friendship that Disney loves to give us.
On the slot to make the animated film come to life:
Mike Van Waes, an up-and-coming screenwriter better known as a writer of horror fare will write the new film while Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich, who also produced the upcoming Aladdin live-action film, will produce this project!
DisneyAs expected, Twitter is exploding with feedback.
People are eager to make sure everyone knows that this is happening!
Gotta get this right!
Reviews of the live-action films Disney has given us so far have been mostly well-received so it's only reasonable to assume Disney will not let us down with Lilo and Stitch, either.
But of course, there's always a few negative folks in the mix.
Like this person who doesn't think the beloved Stitch can be made in a realistic way that doesn't make him "ugly."
To which i respond...
There's an artist on Etsy, Nafantano, who has made one of the most realistic and totally adorable Stitch's I've ever seen. Quite frankly, if we can already buy a realistic Stitch, then Disney can definitely make one, too!
NafantanoUnfortunately, some lack-luster enthusiasm includes wishing it would all stop.
"I don't like it."
BUT SO WHAT
If they don't like the idea of another Disney live-action re-make then that just means a less crowded theater for me! Because I am definitely excited about this movie!
