Deaf Dog Finds Forever Home, Never To Return To The Shelter Again

Approximately 5-10% of canines face a unique challenge – being born deaf or experiencing hearing loss as they age. The cause of this hereditary deafness is often linked to gene mutation, affecting certain breeds more than others.

Notably, dogs with striking white coats and mesmerizing blue eyes are particularly susceptible to this type of deafness. Meet Blu, a stunning pit bull with piercing blue eyes and a white coat, who happens to be deaf.

Blu spent days upon days unvisited in an animal shelter until fate intervened. Fortunately, Mark and Sean, business colleagues in San Francisco, were actively seeking to adopt a deaf dog and found two at Family Dog Rescue. Blu was one of the fortunate ones.

Blu's deafness has no impact on her life or her interactions with her new family, except that it affects her ability to form close relationships with other dogs. Mark and Sean emphasize that deaf dogs, like Blu, listen with their hearts, and they have a special place in their lives.

They have worked with a trainer to teach Blu stress-relief techniques like stretching, and she remains unaffected by loud noises like fireworks. Seeing the profound connection between Blu and her dads is heartwarming.
