Someone Else's Crying Baby Prompts New Parents To Move To A New Table At A Fancy Restaurant, Unfortunately, Baby's Mom Heard Their Request
Taking a break is a luxury not everyone can afford. When we do get the opportunity to step away from our responsibilities for a while, we cherish it.
"Treat yourself!" is what Donna Meagle taught us to do and that's what we must do when we take a break. For parents, this means a night out without their kids in tow.
These new parents were not an exception to that. It was their first night out since their baby was born and no expense was spared.
They got a babysitter and booked a table at a fancy restaurant in town. The night was going great until a couple sat next to them... they brought their own baby with them.
The baby was quiet enough but like any other baby, it didn't take much to make them cry. The mom tried to comfort her child but the baby kept crying each time it woke up.
OP and her husband wanted to leave but it was too late since they already placed their order. They called their waiter's attention and asked if it was possible to move to another table.
They explained that it was their first time out after having a baby and didn't want to spend the night next to someone else's crying bundle of joy. The waiter was understanding and they quickly set up a new table for OP and her husband.
Another couple sitting close to the crying baby also asked to be moved. The parents overheard what OP said to the waiter, so naturally, the mom called OP an a**hole.
She said OP probably didn't have kids because she doesn't understand that babies are people too

The mom was still saying a lot of things that OP chose to ignore as they went to their new table. They could still hear the baby's faint cries but they did their best to enjoy their meal.
The next morning when OP shared the story with her sister, she agreed with the mom that what OP said made her an a**hole. Her sister said she went too far with what she said to the waiter and the mom, so OP is now confused if she reacted harshly.

OP handled the situation with grace, all things considered. She just gave birth and had to endure being lectured by another woman about how babies are people too.

You can't let your kid cry their lungs out in a restaurant full of people and then feel offended when other patrons ask to be seated elsewhere

She kept trying to soothe her baby but the kid was clearly uncomfortable at that restaurant which should have cued the parents that it was time to go

It's understandable to want a nice evening around other adults but once the baby's cries get relentless enough, then it's time to call it a night

The mom probably felt awful when she overheard OP's reason for wanting to move tables. However, OP wasn't wrong to say that enduring a night with a crying baby while you eat your dinner is just painful.
OP and her SO earned that night off, spending it beside a loud noise will defeat the purpose of their break. Maybe their next date night can go better since this experience taught them they can ask to be seated in an area with fewer (or no) kids.
