Chonky Pug Pup Can't Fit Through The Doggy Door
Pugs are built for comedy, and Sushi the pug delivered it in a big way when one tiny doorway turned into a full-blown problem. With that round little body and a determined attitude, she looked ready to squeeze through anything, even when the math clearly said otherwise.
Sushi’s family caught the moment on camera, and the result is the kind of dog video that gets funnier the longer you watch it. One stubborn attempt, one very small opening, and one very chonky reality check made this a scene nobody could ignore.
And once Sushi committed to the doggy door, there was no graceful way out.
Sushi is a pug who must have had a pretty high opinion of herself... this is at least until she met a worthy opponent.
Not to be dramatic, of course, but Sushi's nemesis turned out to be a doggy door she couldn't overcome.
At this point, it's believed that sweet Sushi was living in a world of denial, and everyone learned it the hard way.
One day, Sushi's parents were preoccupied with their other dog. It was only a moment, a minute, a blip in time, but they needed to move Sushi to the laundry room so that she wouldn't be a distraction, which is totally reasonable!
The previous owners of the home this lovely family lived in had installed a pet door in the laundry room—a cat-sized door. The average pug weighs much more than the average house cat, but Sushi was apparently totally unaware that this hole was not Sushi-sized.
Unbothered by a seemingly non-obstacle, Sushi took it upon herself to use the convenient pet door to return to her family. In an interview with The Dodo, Sushi's mom, Rachel, said:
"I guess she knew what we were doing and was determined to get through. I heard her scratching and came around the corner."
Rachel turned to see a sight one must witness to truly grasp the enormity of the situation and why it's just... hysterical:
That is where Sushi's confidence met the doggy door.
This also feels like the owner who watched their dog inhale a whole bag of saltines, then dealt with the aftermath.
Not unlike many creatures from many species before her, Sushi underestimated her girth, her pudge, her chunk, and her chonk.
There was a moment in the video where anyone could see that Sushi had a realization. She was previously blissfully unaware that she was a pudgy pug, and now she knew.
"She definitely thinks she can fit through and escape from anything," Rachel said. "I thought it was hilarious. My husband came around the corner and let her out."
Rest assured, Sushi was not injured in the incident, unless you count her pride (which, to be fair, you very well may count as her pride; you do you).
Rachel Wright, an artist and tattoo apprentice, was keenly aware of her beloved pug's emotional conundrum, saying:
"After that, she went on patrol and scanned the perimeter to make sure there wasn’t any fun going on. I’m sure it hurt her pride a little, though."
Sushi's chonky adventure has been seen over 5.5 million times, so hopefully Rachel will continue to occasionally share some snippets of life with the spunky pug.
