Cute Cats Create Interesting Shapes When They Take Naps Together
Cats love sleeping and spend most of the day taking naps. Kitties also enjoy sleeping in strange, often confined, and small places.
It is no wonder that most funny cat photos feature cats sleeping in boxes, glasses, sinks, shoes, laundry racks, and more. However, cats are not interesting only when they are alone.
Did you know that when cats sleep together, they tend to create interesting shapes? People are sharing pictures of their cats sleeping in the strangest positions while forming unusual shapes.
We have selected some of the most interesting cat photos, and we know you are going to love them.

Why do some felines prefer dozing with their fellow animal buddies, and how can they twist their bodies like that? Celia Haddon, a feline behaviorist, clarified that such behavior is a sign of cat friendship.
"Cats keep their friends close and their enemies at a distance. They naturally socially distance from strangers." While numerous felines live happily in the same home with other cats, they often stay away from each other "because they are acquaintances, not true friends."
Furthermore, "cats that dislike each other will not sleep touching." Clinical feline behaviorist Trudi Atkinson stated that felines who are in the same social group often snooze and rest "cuddled up."
Trudi noted that "not all cats that live together consider themselves to be in the same social group as their feline housemates."

The other incredible thing about cats is their flexibility: "Their spine rotates far more than ours does. They have special cushioned discs between the vertebrae."
"They also don’t have a collarbone attached to their shoulder blade. Instead, their shoulder blade is connected to the rest of the body with muscles, not bone."
Celia clarified that these two exceptional characteristics allow cats to achieve great flexibility.

6. Heart-shaped cats....

One more explanation for cats sleeping all twisted up has to do with temperature. If it’s hot, felines relax and frequently snooze with their bellies exposed.
However, when it’s cold, they sleep tightly to retain warmth. "If it is cold, cats that are friends probably sleep with more of their bodies touching," Celia said.
She also added that if humans tried to twist their bodies as cats do, "we would feel uncomfortable or even in pain, making it difficult to sleep in these positions."
She noted that felines often become more careful about where they take a nap as they get older: "That is often because, like us, they develop arthritis, so they need more comfort."

Celia said it's perfectly fine for humans to sleep with their feline friends, as long as both feel comfortable. "Cats enjoy it because we give off heat, so we are like electric blankets for them," she explained.
We are unlikely to squash them while asleep because they have a sixth sense. As a bonus for us, their purrs help us relax and sleep better.
