It's an unfortunate thing, yet unsurprising, that sometimes people have biases against unruly animals because they would rather choose a pet that's already well-groomed and well taken care of right from when they came out of the womb. People or families who are in a search of a pet sometimes prefer not to take in stray animals because they would rather have them straight from a pet shop or a shelter that has already taken care of them.
The latter option is very much more ideal, especially for those who truly want to make a difference and give a proper forever home to an animal. According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), over 3.3 million dogs and 3.2 million cats end up in shelters annually, and approximately 4 million animals get adopted every year—over 2 million cats and dogs each.
Some people find the love of their lives in these shelters, and for them, we are truly grateful. However, there are still a million animals waiting for that one person and family that would fall in love and take them in.
Animals in shelters tend to experience distress especially when they have just been freshly rescued, and are still adjusting to the new routine of being housed together with others. Some may even shy away from the presence of people, but don't be fooled; these animals, especially cats (contrary to the belief that they despise human contact), still ache for the warmth of their own hooman and a loving home to sleep and play in.
Take this particular stray cat that you are about to read on, for instance. This adorable furball arrived at the Hanover County Animal Control (HCAC) in Mechanicsville, Virginia, by a citizen. This gray-and-white domestic feline showed no signs of any health issues, even injury, neglect, or malnutrition.
Meet Muffin.
Andrew Hodnett, the Animal Facility Manager of HCAC said in speculation that Muffin had been well-taken care of by a loving home his whole life, as he showed no signs of neglect of some sort. Unfortunately, no one tried to claim him while he was put on hold, so now, he is looking for a new home.
Hanover County Animal ControlHodnett said that Muffin was in a spirited mood when he arrived at the shelter. He described the feline with having "a friendly disposition and demeanor."
That being said, Muffin easily caught the hearts of the shelter staff. The furball is always trying to get their attention and doesn't like to sit around and just mope all day.
He also makes sure that he gets enough pets and scratches at the end of the day before everybody goes home.
Hanover County Animal Control"He loves attention; he loves people."
"I think he's a very outgoing and loving cat," Andrew said.
Anyone who desires a curious and energetic cat would love Muffin, as he never runs out of entertainment.
Hanover County Animal Control"He's not your typical lap cat who just lays around," Andrew added. "He has more energy. If someone is looking for an active cat, he'd be perfect."
Hanover County Animal ControlWith his bright personality, it wouldn't be hard to find the right person for Muffin. The manager, however, emphasizes that Muffin is a living example of the need to spay and neuter cats, especially domestic ones.
Hanover County Animal ControlThis is important in ensuring that every domestic cat out there would be given an equal chance at a better life.
Hanover County Animal ControlThese animals deserve all the world and let's just hope that they get to meet the people that would be able to care for them very soon. Let this also be a reminder to be responsible and spay and neuter your domestic cats, so that there would be fewer of them ending up in shelters, waiting for someone to adopt them.
