Rescued Cat Named Muffin Has an Energetic and Playful Personality and Is Looking for His New Forever Home
It's unfortunate, yet unsurprising, that some people have biases against unruly animals because they would rather choose a pet that's already well-groomed and cared for from the moment they were born. Individuals or families searching for a pet often prefer not to adopt stray animals, opting instead for those available at pet shops or shelters that have already attended to their needs.
The latter option is much more ideal, especially for those who genuinely want to make a difference and provide a proper forever home to an animal. According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), over 3.3 million dogs and 3.2 million cats end up in shelters annually, and approximately 4 million animals are adopted each year—over 2 million cats and dogs combined.
Some people find the love of their lives in these shelters, and for that, we are truly grateful. However, there are still millions of animals waiting for that one person or family to fall in love and take them in.
Animals in shelters often experience distress, especially when they have just been rescued and are still adjusting to the new routine of being housed with others. Some may even shy away from the presence of people, but don't be fooled; these animals, especially cats (contrary to the belief that they despise human contact), still yearn for the warmth of their own human and a loving home to sleep and play in.
Take this particular stray cat that you are about to read about, for instance. This adorable furball arrived at the Hanover County Animal Control (HCAC) in Mechanicsville, Virginia, thanks to a concerned citizen. This gray-and-white domestic feline showed no signs of health issues, injury, neglect, or malnutrition.
Meet Muffin.
Andrew Hodnett, the Animal Facility Manager of HCAC, speculated that Muffin had been well cared for by a loving home his whole life, as he showed no signs of neglect. Unfortunately, no one attempted to claim him while he was on hold, so now he is looking for a new home.

Hodnett said that Muffin was in a spirited mood when he arrived at the shelter. He described the feline as having "a friendly disposition and demeanor."
That being said, Muffin easily captured the hearts of the shelter staff. The furball is always trying to get their attention and doesn't like to sit around and mope all day.
He also ensures that he receives enough pets and scratches at the end of the day before everyone goes home.

"He loves attention; he loves people."
"I think he's a very outgoing and loving cat," Andrew said.
Anyone who desires a curious and energetic cat would adore Muffin, as he never runs out of entertainment.

"He's not your typical lap cat who just lays around," Andrew added. "He has more energy. If someone is looking for an active cat, he'd be perfect."

With his bright personality, it wouldn't be hard to find the right person for Muffin. The manager, however, emphasizes that Muffin is a living example of the need to spay and neuter cats, especially domestic ones.

This is important in ensuring that every domestic cat has an equal chance at a better life.

These animals deserve all the love in the world, and let's hope they meet the people who can care for them very soon. Let this also serve as a reminder to be responsible and spay and neuter your domestic cats, so that fewer of them end up in shelters, waiting for someone to adopt them.
